I stroked the Irish setter puppy as I carried him into the dining room. We were in the midst of opening presents.

"Sherlock." I said. "Close your eyes."

He laughed, and did so.
I placed the dog in his lap. He felt it, and gasped. "Redbeard! You got me another Redbeard!" Sherlock was, of course, talking about his lost friend, his old dog.

I smiled. "Yep!"

Sherlock grinned. "Come on, Redbeard II." the dog barked, almost in response.

I sent an apologetic look at my uncle and aunt, but they were smiling at Sherlock, pleased to see him so happy again.
John was smiling too. Sherlock was stroking the dog's ears. "Hey, Redbeard." he muttered.

Sherlock and Redbeard became such good friends that we decided to sneak the dog into Hogwarts when we returned.
Dunbledore was contacted, and told that because Sherlock was older, and didn't want to be so reliant on people, his parents had bought him a guide dog. And so Redbeard (With a reflective collar and lead) boarded the train with us.

Any person who knew what a guide dog did would have been able to tell just by his behaviour on the train that Redbeard wasn't a guide dog.
Luckily not many wizards knew what a guide dog usually did. Although, I assumed Dumbledore did, seeing his smiling glance at Sherlock when he pleasantly told all cat and toad owners that there was a 'necessary dog on the premises'.

Sherlock snorted quietly, and I nudged him. I saw John smirk at us, before picking up his plate, and walking over.

"well." He said, as a greeting. "Necessary dog, hmm?"

"Well, he is necessary. Necessary to keep me company." Sherlock reasoned.

"Suppose... Hey, what are we for then? We keep you company, silly!" John nudged Sherlock jokingly in his side.

We all fell silent as footsteps stopped behind us. None of us had to turn round to know that it was some Slytherins, and Sherlock and I knew which Slytherins.

"Moriarty. Do introduce me to your new boyfriend." Sherlock said coldly.

"Oh, sorry, Sherlock, was I being rude? I am so sorry." Moriarty said. "This is Sebastian Moran." he said, indicating to the tall, blond boy behind him.
Sebastian nodded, almost angrily. He was standing behind Moriarty in a way that would indicate that Sebastian was bodyguard rather than a boyfriend.
I didn't bother to wast a smile on the two.
Anderson appeared behind them, and turned to me. "So. I heard that Sirius Black has escaped Azkaban.."

"That's old news." Sherlock said coldly.

"Think anyone else will escape?" Anderson asked pointedly. But none of them knew the full extent of what my father had done.

"Hey, Anderson ." I said suddenly. He smirked, expecting me to get angry. "I've discovered this wonderful new thing, which you don't have." I said lazily.

"What?" he growled.

"It's called a brain cell." I smiled. "You should see if you can get hold of one... actually, don't bother. It'll be too difficult for you."
(A/N I used this insult on my brother. Winner.)
