"Avada kadavra!" my father shouted, pointing his wand at Sherlock. I jumped in front of my cousin, intercepting the flash of green light.
I was conscious for all of one second, my mind palace going into lock down, alarms blaring.
I was floating in a river. A river filled with the hopes and dreams of the dead. The River Styx. If I had been alive my skin would have felt like fire.
I realised that because I was actually in the river, I was neither in the land of the living, nor in the Underworld. I was floating halfway between. As I slowly began to sink, a face appeared above me, distorted by the river. An arm plunged into the river and a hand grabbed mine. I was pulled out of the Styx, onto the bank opposite the Underworld.
A lady in a white dress, with glowing green eyes stood in front of me.
"Mother? What's happening? I'm dead, aren't I?"
"So many questions." Hecate muttered. "So little time. Yes, you are dead, but in life there is death, and in death there is life. As soon as you leave this cavern you will be alive again, Lord Hades has given me his word. It only took a bit of blackmail." She said the last sentence under her breath.
"But why save me?" I asked.
"Save? My dear girl, you are the one who saved someone. I am simply rewarding you. Plus, you're needed. Not just by Sherlock and his boyfriend, but by Alabaster and Woody. You will not let him down. So go, now, before Lord Hades changes his mind."
I nodded. "Thank you, Lady Hecate." but she was already dissolving.
I lay completely still. I was lying on something soft. Slowly the sound of crying came to my ears.
"Shh." came John's voice. I opened my eyes slightly to see Sherlock burying his face into John's shoulder. John held him while they both cried.
"Hey." I said, my throat felt like I had been drinking fire. John glanced at me, and started.
"Hi, Sherlock. You can't get rid of me yet." I said. Sherlock glanced up a the sound of my voice. "Short version: not dead."Sherlock looked overjoyed, but also furious. "Never. Do. That. Again." he said.
"Don't worry, I'm not likely to." I muttered. "So what happened while I was out of it?"
"Dumbledore got there after you were hit with the spell. He was followed by McGonagall and Fudge. Your father was restrained, disarmed, and locked in one of the offices. The dementors are going to give him what he deserves. He's a murderer." John said.
"Tell me about it." I muttered.
"Sherlock did. While you were, well, dead." John said quietly.
"Did you?" I asked Sherlock. He nodded. "Well done."
Dumbledore came in soon after, with Mycroft and Greg. They were amazed and relieved that I was alive. Dumbledore deemed me well enough to go to the school feast, and nothing Madam Pomfrey could say made him change his mind.
While at the feast he gave us another 100 points to Ravenclaw for our bravery. Gryffindor still won the cup, but everyone cheered because it meant that Slytherin wasn't second.
Mycroft was told the whole truth of Sherrinford's death on the way home. John held Sherlock's hand for the entire speech, and Redbeard lay on the seat between Sherlock and me. Greg sat next to Mycroft. Mycroft didn't break down upon hearing the truth, but having Greg there helped calm him down.
Between us we managed to buy half of the sweets on the trolley.
Mycroft sighed, eating his final chocolate frog. "To think, that was our last year at Hogwarts." he said to Greg."Yeah." Greg said, sadly, looking out of the window.
All too soon we were pulling into Kings Cross, collecting our luggage, and all five of us made our way towards Mr & Mrs Holmes. Greg spotted his parents in the crowds, thanked my aunt and uncle for some reason, kissed Mycroft right there on the platform, and disappeared into the sea of people, his head reappearing from time to time, before joining his parents.
John travelled with us to Holmes Manor, where his parents picked him up. He stroked Redbeard, gave me a quick hug, and kissed Sherlock, before slipping into his parents car and driving away.
Two weeks into the holiday, I was woken by a sound outside. I opened my window to see two figures on the lawn. A boy and a dog. Only it wasn't a dog, it was a wolf.
I ran downstairs, unlocked the back door, and ran outside into the moonlight to greet Alabaster and Woody, who by that time had morphed into a human.
