"I already am." Sherlock said.

"Are what?" John asked, startled because Sherlock was no longer sounding angry.

"An absolute arse." Sherlock admitted.

"No, you're not."

"I am the most unpleasant, rude, ignorant and all round obnoxious arsehole that you could possibly have the misfortune to meet. Redeemed only by warmth and consistency of your friendship." *
Sherlock was, by this time, holding Redbeard close to his chest.

John looked at me, his face just screaming 'would you believe that?'.

"So.. I understand if you want to ask me what happened, but I beg you, don't make me repeat what happened that night." Sherlock started to tear up. "I understand if you don't want to spend time with me, because I can't see, and because you want to ask me a question that I can never answer."

"You don't understand." John said softly. "I love you. And nothing can prevent me from loving you."

Sherlock smiled, finally letting the tears fall. Redbeard also fell, and landed on the floor, legs splayed in different directions, looking very ungainly and indignant. John embraced Sherlock, who let the last of his tears fall into John's jumper.

"You really mean it?" Sherlock muttered quietly, as I tried to cheer up a very grumpy Irish setter puppy.

"Of course." John muttered. "If you don't believe me, take my pulse."

"I already did." Sherlock said.

A figure walked towards us. It was Mycroft.

"Henrietta. I need to speak to you. Now."

I nodded, confused that Lestrade had not followed Mycroft.

"what do you want?" I asked.

"Why was this delivered by owl?" Mycroft asked, holding up a piece of parchment.

I took it from him.

The note was addressed to me.

There is nowhere you can run.
I will finish what I started.

"I have no idea what this is about." I lied. "or why it was sent to you." that bit was true. Why it had been delivered to Mycroft baffled me, unless He wanted everyone around me to panic. If that was the case, he had failed, because Mycroft had no idea who it was from, nor what it was about.
But I knew, and I knew that he was planning his attack.
We just had to plan our's.

* ok, I know I basically ripped off his best man speech for this, many thanks to Ben C for saying a best man speech in a way that I can just quote from it without having to think about it.
