Elijah has a hint of amusement in his eyes.
He can act all he wants. I'm the only one that makes him that hard, that sick fuck.
By the way he's been looking at my body all night is a good sign and a free pass to examine his.
"Question time." He insists, bringing my attention back to his face. "Who taught you parkour?"
I chuckle at his amazement. "My dad did. I thought I told you that."
"Eliza, is there any more stuff I should know about you because you're much more than a girl in the back of the class."
"Thank you!" I laugh. "But I don't know, you'll have to wait and see."
"Let's play twenty questions." He encourages.
"Wow, are we in fifth grade?"
He knits it eyebrows together. He clearly didn't like my comment. He clears his throat in response.
"I just didn't think you wanted, to know, that much about me." I offer.
"Well, we're partners. I have to get to know you." He says dully.
"Okay, ask away."
"How often do you get out?"
I shake my head. "I've been doing a lot these past days, but honestly I just want to be inside with my books."
"What are you reading now?"
"Copper Sun by Sharon M. Draper." I answer.
He chuckles. "You're late. I read that a while back. My parents wanted me to get in touch with my roots."
"Now imagine, having a mother like mine. We take pride in being a successful black family."
"My family just want me to be successful, even if I don't take over the business."
"They aren't making you take over their multibillion dollar company?" I ask in shock.
He shakes his head.
That's scandalous! Everyone I've ever know has had their life planned out. It didn't matter if you wanted to take it over or not.
I knew what I was going to do. Elizabeth and I will take over our mother's company and become 50-50 partners and grow her company. It was what I was born to do, or at least that's what my mother said.
"Wow, do you at least want to?" I ask.
"I don't really know what I want to do, besides play baseball."
I laugh. "Are you serious? You want to be a baseball player instead of running a multibillion dollar company?" I ask.
That's just unheard of. That's crazy!
He still doesn't look happy, but I can't really stop laughing that he would choose baseball over a company.
"It's not funny. Baseball is where my heart is, not that damn company!" He snaps.
"But is a better life choice." I counter.
"Life is lived to be happy, not wealthy."
"Unless that makes you happy."
"Shut the fuck up Eliza, I was trying to be serious!" He demands as his lips twitch.
"I can't help it." I chuckle.
"So, tell me something I don't know about you." He encourages.
"I drank-"
He raises a brow. "No you didn't."
