It's been a couple months and everything is actually going smoothly.
I told my mother and she wasn't happy at all. She was concerned in the company's image and they family's but what surprised me was that she was concerned for me most of all. That's really a first for her. She's sick of seeing Elijah, but she's managing for me and I appreciate it truly.
Currently the three of us are at a store, shopping for baby things. I know it's a bit early for me to be shopping for baby clothes, but I'm excited and couldn't wait. I'm about five months along with a baby bump. Elijah and his parents have been very supportive.
"So have you decided on the name?" Mother asks as we search for clothes.
I shrug. "No, not much."
"If it's a boy I want him to have my name." Elijah says.
"Okay." I agree.
"And if it's a girl?" Mother asks.
"Maybe Judith." I offer.
"Oh god no."
"Why not?" I ask Elijah.
"It's such an old name."
"Okay well since you want the boy named after you I'll name the girl after me. Her name will be Eliza."
"Uh, Okay." He shrugs.
"Really? I was just joking but we could do that." I say.
"If it's a boy his name is Elijah and if a girl her name will be Eliza." He assures.
"Who's last name will they have?" Mother asks.
"I was think about hyphenating them." I tell her.
"That's sloppy. I feel the baby should have your last name Eliza since you two aren't married." Mother says.
"Yes, we get that, but they are my kids as well and I want them to carry my last name."
Mother opens her mouth but closes it and thinks. "You're right. I'm sure you two will figure this out together."
"Thank you mother."
We leave the store and head home.
"You hungry Princess?" He asks me.
"Of course."
"What do you feel like eating?"
"I want a really good burger."
"Alright I know just the place, but it's a bit of a long drive." He says, turning the car around.
"That's fine." I tell him
After a few hours of driving, we are at a burger restaurant. Elijah and I are seated soon after we enter the place.
"So how you feeling about a baby?" I ask Elijah.
He chuckles. "I think I'm more ready than you."
"What? Why you say that?" I ask.
"Because when you told me, you almost died when I said I wanted to keep it. I didn't think you wanted too."
"I just thought I was going to be in it alone." I tell him.
"You will never be alone Princess." He tells me taking my hand.
"I feel like we're in a better place now than we were before."
"We are, because, I think, now you finally have trust in me again."
"I do trust you." I admit.
"Good, but now I have some good news and some bad news. Which do you want first?" He asks.
Oh crap!
"I'm give me the bad news."
"My heart has gotten worse."
Oh crap! I thought we put that behind us. He hasn't had to go to the hospital. He's been breathing fine, I've been checking.
"Princess."
I look up from my hand to his eyes. "Yes?"
"Breath." He commands.
I take a deep breath and calm myself.
"Now my heart has gotten worse and they said they don't really know how much time I have left."
My eyes widen and tears roll down my cheeks. Well what the hell is the good news?
"I got moved up on the donor list, but I don't know. Some doctors say I won't survive a transplant, but others say I have a good chance, but it's risky." He says, getting choked up.
I wipe my face. "What the hell is the good news?"
He wipes his face and gets up. He swiftly walks over to me and gets down on one knee.
Wait! Wait! Wait!
"The good news is, that I want you to be my wife. For how ever much time I have left." He announces, pulling out a beautiful ring.
Oh my God!
I pause taking everything in and see him looking up at me and I grab him and pull him into a hug.
"Yes! A thousand times yes!"
He kisses me passionately, because now every kiss could be our last.
We eat our food and we can't stop smiling at each other.
We head back to my house.
Elijah opens the door for me and Beatrice and my mother rush to us.
"Congratulations!" She screams hugging me.
"Thank you so much!"
Mother hugs me. She's much more frail, because of the radiation. I try to feed her as much as possible but sometimes her stomach just can't handle it. She's begun wearing wigs, but she'll be damned if she takes a break from her business.
Deja comes running to me and I pick her up.
Everything is peaceful the rest of the night.
Elijah and I text all night and he agrees to come to church with me in the morning.
