The two elves and two humans walked along the wide bridge, Mariana next to Rydel and Taylor, and Merlyn next to Taylor at the end. The girls were lagging a bit for the sun had set a few when they left and it is already starting to rise.
They were hungry and tired, but didn't dare mention it to the boys, or one another.
They walked in silence, fear creeping close behind. When they reached the door, they had no idea what was going to happen.
Will they be met with a nice fairy or an evil one? Will the door even be answered? Are there guards who will kill them on sight? Or are there guard animals that will instead?
When the foursome was about 100 yards from the door, they heard some call out, "Halt!"
They stopped right where they were and watched as four men in silver armor stood in front of them with swords drawn.
They all stood still and silent, and Mariana was itching to grab at the gun.
"Name yourselves!" One barked.
Merlyn bowed. "I am Merlyn, eldest son of Astro and Sorea Montoral." He greeted.
"And I am Rydel, best friend of Merlyn, and youngest son of Leore and Kasdara Sahr." Rydel bowed as well.
They raised and looked at the girls expectantly. Mariana's cheeks burned and she whistled lowly and quietly—just loud enough for Taylor, who was beside her, to hear.
Mariana bowed and stated, "I am Mariana, sister of Scarlett, and youngest daughter of Cassandra and Derrek Ellswere."
Mariana stayed down as Taylor bowed and spoke, "And I am Taylor, eldest daughter of Christine and Daniel Sindart."
They rose at the same time and watched the guards' reactions. They were looking at Mariana.
"Ellswere?" One asked her.
Mariana was about to nod, but caught herself. "Yes, sir."
The soldiers lowered their weapons and smiled. "Welcome," he greeted, "we have been expecting you."
