My mother broke down crying and folded me into her arms. That's when I let the tears fall. Each tear that fell from my eyes represented a memory that my sister and I shared. Us playing with our dolls, us slamming the door in each other's face, a laugh escaping from both of our mouths. I gasped for air as my mother held my face in her hands to look at her in the eyes.
"Win. Win for her." she said. Her face was still beautiful under the red and the swelling.
I nodded and went over to my father. He embraced me tightly and I took in his scent of his colone. The smell calmed me and I started to breathe easier. We didn't have to speak. Its just one of those things where you didn't have to say anything, except for one thing," I love you Daddy." "I love you too my princess." Fresh tears tumbled down my face as he kissed my forehead.
I then went over to my sister and crushed her in my arms. Her tiny body fitting into mine, "I love you, Satin." "I love you too sissy!" I didn't want to let go of her. I wanted to protect her from the dangers of the world. I didnt realize I was trembling until Satin said something.
"Sissy, why are you shaking?" she said as she escaped from my arms. She looked at my tear-streaked face and then at my mom's. "Sissy, why are you crying?" she said as she tried to wipe my face dry with her small hands.
I kissed her face and swept back her hair from her eyes. "I'm crying because I'm leaving for awhile."
"Are you going in the Games that you have been training for?" she asked.
"I am."
"Win!" she says intensely,"Please come back for me. For Ivory, for mommy, and for daddy!"
Her sudden outburst took me aback. I didn't know how to respond but to nod.
"Say that you will!" she cried.
"I will! I promise." I say. Once I said those words, I felt strength go up my spine. Right there I vowed that to make sister's death honorable, to make my other sister have a sister for her for the rest of her life, and to make my parents proud, I will win. I will this Game. For them, for Ivory.
"Time's up!" a peacekeeper said. I nodded, hugged my family one more time, and left with my head held high.
