Chapter 16

"Ivory?" I shouted out into the abyss. Everything around me was dark. So dark that I couldnt see my hands in front of my face. I just ran aimlessly around with a dreaded feeling that kept getting stronger with every step I took. I felt like something bad was about to happen and for some reason I had a feeling it was about Ivory. I kept shouting her name, my voice becoming hoarse with every scream. It felt like it had been hours since I've started running. I wanted to to break down, scream in pure frustration, and beat my fists on the ground. Nothing was making sense.

Right when I was about to give up, I tripped over something big and fell to the ground. I landed in something warm and wet. Thats when the lights came on. I stared at my hand in horror when I saw the red substance that covered it. Its coppery smell made my stomach roll. I looked around to see where the blood's owner came from. Behind me I saw my sister's lifeless body surrounded by a huge pile of blood. Ivory's beautiful face was covered in dirt and cuts. I screamed as hot boiling tears rushed down my face.

"Ivory. Please wake up. I don't want you to be gone. Please. Please!" My voice breaking as I sobbed out my pleas.

Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.

I looked behind me to see five bodies hit the ground. Standing up, shaking, I went to see their faces. I became numb as I saw them. They were the tributes I had killed in the arena and the girl that killed my sister at the reaping.

"You did this, Glimmer," a voice said behind me. I turned around to see Ivory standing. Her back was haunched over, making her tangled dark hair cover half of her broken face. Her eyes had no life in them. She held her hand over her heart where a dagger handle was sticking out.

"What do you mean?" I asked, not knowing how to respond.

"Actually, you were made to do this."

"I was made to do what?" I asked again desperately.

Ivory waved her hand over the people I had killed. "You were made by the Capitol to do this. You were designed to kill these people without any feeling. With no remorse."

"Is that a bad thing?" I ask confused. Nothing was making sense.

"Each and everyone of these people had a family. A family in pain and anguish. Just like how you felt when I died in your arms."

I sat up fast as I awoke from the nightmare. My heart pounded hard against my chest as I breathed in rapid breaths. Everyone around me slept soundly like they haven't had sleep in weeks.

"Bad dream?" Peeta asked quietly.

I jumped, startled. I had forgot that we put him to watch us while we slept.

"For a career, you sure are jumpy," he said.

"Shut up," I snarled. I laid my head back on my jacket to try to get more sleep. I knew it was going to be useless since I was still pretty shaken up from my nightmare.

What did Ivory mean that I was created to kill? Wasn't that a good thing?
