After lemonade the pack headed back outside. I went back up to the red room and pulled out my iPod. Being a werewolf was much more boring than you would’ve thought. I clicked on one of my games and played for a few minutes, until I got bored.

I’d gone through every App when a heavenly smell drifted up from downstairs. I wandered down the stairs to find Eve and Katie standing in the kitchen glaring at one another.

“Kaitlyn Margaret, you had better listen to me.”

Katie whipped her head around to find me on the staircase; she snarled then marched down the hallway, slamming the front door behind her. Eve slipped on her oven mitt a little too ferociously for my comfort.

“Sorry,” I apologized, “I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

“You weren’t interrupting, we were just finishing up.”

                “Oh.”

Eve pulled a tray of homemade cookies from the oven. Chocolate chip was my favourite. Eve used her flipper to set them on cooling racks, then set to work reloading the pan. She put the pan in the oven then set the timer.

“Cookie?” She asked, nodding towards the cooling racks.

“Thanks,” I smiled and picked up one of the soft, warm circles.

“They’re for dessert, but I figured we needed a taste tester,” she smiled.

I took a bite of the melted chocolate and sweet dough. It was even better than the smell. I felt as if I were going to melt in the chair. I’d never tasted anything so good.

“These are incredible,” I said between mouthfuls.

                “Old family recipe,” Eve explained.

I finished the cookie and licked the chocolate from my fingers.

                “Any plans?” Eve asked.

                “Actually, I think I’ll take a nap. I’m a little tired.”

“Of course, need to get your energy back after all that sickness and whatnot.”

I nodded then headed back upstairs. Before long I was asleep again.

When I woke up, I could see that it was dark out. I flicked the light on and rubbed my eyes. I had no idea what time it was. I crossed the room and picked up my iPod. 10:37pm.

I yawned and stretched. Maybe there were cookies left. Not likely with the appetites around here, I thought. I eased open the door and peered down the hallway. The lights were on and I could hear voices from down the hallway.

I padded over in my bare feet to see where the noise was coming from. The door at the end of the hallway was open. I saw Buck and Oakley sitting on the couch in the living room type area. Buck looked up and saw me.

“Hey, Laura, come on over,” He called with a smile.

I hesitated. Should I? I saw him reach for something. He held out a blue container with something inside. He shook it back and forth,
