I woke up to the smell of breakfast. From the red room I could smell bacon, eggs and hash browns frying away. I pulled on my jogging pants and hurried downstairs. Everyone was already sitting. Huge pitchers of orange juice and milk rested on the table. Empty plates sat in front of everyone. Either I was arriving just in time or much too late.

One look at Eve told me I’d come at the right end of the meal. Four frying pans sat on the stove. One with scrambled eggs, the other loaded with bacon and sausage, one with hash browns, the other with French toast. Eve set the syrup on the table and began loading up plates.

Oakley smiled as I sat down beside him.

“Morning, Sleeping beauty,” Zeph called from across the table. I fought the urge to stick my tongue out at him, but couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Eve filled up my plate and moved on to Oakley. Once everyone had food in front of them, there was a slight hesitation. Matthew took a bite, and everyone followed. I wondered what that was about.

Eve had made another breath taking meal. Eating her food was like floating on cloud nine. It was perfectly done in every way. I finished my food as most of the others finished their third plate. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling.

“Look who’s coming around,” Merlin called me out. I laughed and leaned back in my chair, watching everyone else eat more.

Once everyone had finished, Eve left the room again.

“So, when do I get to go home?” I asked.

“You haven’t shifted yet, you shouldn’t leave until you do.” Merlin answered.

“I need to go home today though. I have exams tomorrow.” I pleaded.

“It’s not safe for you to leave.” Buck said.

“But my Aunt will want to know where I am. I need to go home. I can’t stay here forever.”

“Just until you shift,” Wilbur spoke up.

“I don’t think you understand. I need to go home today. I have Exams tomorrow.”

“OK, stay until this afternoon. That’s all we can ask. I’ll drive you home then. But if you haven’t shifted by then, you could be putting all the humans you interact with in danger. You don’t know how to control your instincts,” Matthew said.

                “Thank you,” finally someone understood.

“We’re scouting again today, do you want to see if you can shift yet?” Matthew asked.

“Not really,” I shrunk back into the chair. I wasn’t ready to turn into a wolf yet. The thought terrified me.

“Alright,” Matthew stood; the others followed him to the front door.

In seconds they were all outside. I headed back upstairs. I changed back into my jogging clothes and sat down on the bed. What to do now?

I decided to climb out the window again. Though it wasn’t a thrilling adventure to sit in the oak tree, it was more interesting than sitting around inside. I watched the trees sway in the breeze and the birds fly by overhead. It was relaxing, just sitting outside enjoying the scenery.
