Sorry, as you've most likely noticed, my writing is unedited. Sorry for any mistakes. Stone River pack is about to become a stronger presence in the next few chapter. Thanks for reading :)

The rain let loose, seeming to free us all from the trances we were held in. The skies opened up, liberating the pack from its state of disbelief.

This was actually happening. There was no denying it. With the scent covering our territory and memories fresh in our minds, none of us could unseen what had just happened. For the first time in nine years, Stone River was back. And just as before, they brought sorrow and despair.

Matthew headed for the door, heading up the procession. Everyone came through the door, looking dejected. With my fingers still laced with Matt’s, I caught a glimpse of Oakley. There was none of his usually happiness and optimism. The sight split my heart right down the middle. A knot formed in my throat as I fought back tears. Despair and sadness were in abundance but in this time, we needed to choose steely resolve and determination. I put on a brave face as the pack scattered. Each heading their own way to clear their minds.

Thunder rumbled outside and lightning illuminated the now night sky. I followed Matthew into the loft. He didn’t bother to turn on the lights. Instead he sat down on the edge of the bed looking worn out and hopeless. I sat down beside him and placed my other hand on our interlocked fingers.

“You know I meant it when I said I’m not letting go,” he told me. He looked up for a brief moment, meeting my eyes. I rested my head on his shoulder and nodded.

A flash lit up the room. Thunder rolled. Matthew pressed a kiss to my forehead and I nuzzled closer.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, but whatever it is, it’s going to kill me. It’s like they’re after me personally. They hit where it hurts, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to take it,” Matt said.

“Then don’t think about tomorrow. For now, we’re together. We’re safe and we’re alright. Think about now. Not tomorrow,” I said, my voice quiet.

“Right now I don’t want you to leave.”

                “I’m not leaving.”

“Good.” Matthew said. I grabbed a blanket from a stack nearby and wrapped myself up in it. I was still damp from the rain and couldn’t help a shiver from running down my spine. I laid down on my stomach, propping my chin up on my elbows and crossing my ankles in the air.

I felt Matt’s weigh shift as he copied my position. He was on his side though, facing me. Another bolt of lightning lit up the sky. Matthew wrapped a lock of my hair around his finger and began to twirl it.  I laid my face down on the pillow and sighed.

“What do we do now?” I asked.

“Wait.” Matthew looked like he was swimming in a sea of grief. “We wait while our fate is decided by Stone River.”

I spent the night wrapped up in Matt’s arms. I woke still surrounded by his embrace. It was late in the morning when I opened my eyes. Matt was still asleep. He woke just seconds later. The sunlight played across his cheeks and danced in his eyes.

“I told you I wasn’t letting go,” He smiled. I noticed his arm was draped across my shoulder. A smile spread across my own face.
