This is kind of a mini chapter. It's also the last time we'll hear from Laura's point of view. The next and final chapter will be told from someone else's view.

I stood stone still. Not a muscle moved as I stared into the eyes of my father. Now, suddenly, it all made sense.

I could tell Magnus told the truth. Just by looking at him, I could see the resemblance between us. While I had the same shape face as my mother and her emerald eyes, my features were those of my father softened only by femininity. The straight slope of my nose and my cheekbones had come straight from him. I wondered if at one point his silver hair had been blonde like mine.

It also made sense why my scent was so close to the black Alpha’s. He was my brother. of course they would be similar.

I somehow pulled myself from the trance to look around at my pack mates. Or…. Were they my pack mates?

Katie and Wilbur looked bewildered. Matthew looked as if he’d been deflated. His anger was gone. He looked lost. Not confused, just lost. I wondered if he hated me now. I was one of the enemy. Did that pit us against each other?

I felt as if an icicle had been driven through my heart. A brief shot of pain had shot through me, followed by a sense of detachment seeping through my body. What was I to do now?

Magnus’ voice brought me back to the moment.

“And of course kidnapping is a reason to break the border law.”

Matthew looked up at him once more, this time without the blazing anger.

“Kidnapping?” Matt said, a slight spark returning to his voice.

“You held one of our pack members in your lodge.”

                “Not against her will!”

“Pish posh, what’s the difference really?” Magnus smirked.

“You will be all sent home now. If you refuse to obey the werewolf laws once more, I will be forced to exterminate your pack.” Magnus waved the guards forward.

“What laws have we broken?” Matt snarled.

“Well, you’d better figure it out soon. Or you won’t have to worry about anything other than funeral expenses.”

Matthew was about to growl. A guard gripped his arm and surrounded the other three. They began to move them away. Wilbur shot me a sorry look. Katie looked shocked.

Matthew met my gaze as he was pulled away. His warm brown eyes broke my heart. When I looked into them I saw sorrow. I realized he didn’t hate me. He still cared about me, no matter who I was. A silent goodbye was exchanged between us as he disappeared around the corner.

I was left alone with the wolves. Literally.

“Of course, you’ll be staying here, my child.” Magus looked to me. His smirk was gone now.

“Come here and let me look at you,” he waved me closer.

Did I walked toward the man who had brutally murdered my best friends’ parents or did I turn away from the father I’d always dreamed of meeting?

With a deep breath and a façade of confidence I walked toward my Dad.

His eyes twinkled as I did. “You look move just like your mother.” He wrapped me in a quick hug then pulled back. His eyes fell on the Black Alpha.

“Logan, show your twin to her room."
