Chapter Seventeen
Maya Hart"Are you sure that we're going the right way?" Riley asked me nervously.
It now has been about twenty minutes since Riley and I left the Toys R Us in Times Square to see the huge Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center and we still were not there yet.
"For the last time, Riley, we are going the right way," I replied in an annoyed tone.
As you can probably tell, this wasn't the first time that Riley asked me this. It's the fifth time.
"I have walked to Rockefeller Center many times when I was a kid, so I know my way around here," I explained.
"Sorry, it's just that I'm so excited to see the big Christmas tree!" Riley apologized, "I haven't seen it in a really long time!"
"It's fine. I haven't seen it in awhile as well and I'm excited too!"
All of the sudden, I saw something that was shaped like a star out of the corner of my eye. I looked up and gasped. I could see the Christmas tree, but only a part of it since a building was blocking my view.
"LOOK, RILEY, LOOK!!!" I cried as I pointed towards the tree and jumped up and down.
"What is it, Maya?" Riley asked as she started to look in the direction that I was pointing in.
"IT'S THE CHRISTMAS TREE!!!"
Riley's eyes widened as soon as she saw part of the beautiful, tall Christmas tree. "OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH!!!" She squealed as she jumped up and down with glee.
I just laughed.
"Come on, Maya!" Riley urged me, "What are you waiting for?!?! Let's go see the tree!"
Before I knew it, Riley's hand was in mine and she was dragging me towards Rockefeller Center.
"Hey, do you even know how to get there?" I asked Riley as I started to run, while still holding her hand, to keep up with her.
"I've been here to Rockefeller Center a few times before when I was younger and things are starting to look familiar, so I think so," Riley answered, "And besides, I'm just following the Christmas tree!"
"Boy, I sure hope that you don't take us the wrong way!"
Riley looked over her shoulder. "What? Don't you trust me!"
"Of course I trust you, Riley! You're my best friend!"
"And I trust you too, Maya. I trust you enough that I know that if I do start to go the wrong way, you'll tell me and start to lead us in the right direction."
"Thanks. And, I'd really prefer if you would look forward while running."
"Oh, right," Riley said sheepishly as she turned her head back around.
"THERE IT IS, RILEY!!!" I exclaimed as I looked up and pointed.
It was now a minute or two later and Riley and I had finally reached the tree. Boy, was it stunning! It was decorated with all different types of ornaments. Even though it is daytime, it was all lit up. Lights of red, orange, green, blue, and yellow glowed off of it. Also, the huge star topper had a white light glowing off of it. But, boy, was the tree HUGE!!! It had to be at least a hundred feet tall!
