Chapter Thirty
Riley MatthewsMaya and I told Farkle everything. Yes, everything. From when Maya realized that she was in a coma to when she accidentally made me fall out of my dream cloud. From when I fell on top of Maya while iceskating at Rockefeller Center to when we shared our first kiss at the hospital and I asked her to be my girlfriend. From when Maya and I were trying to do our project and my family caught us, causing us to have to explain everything to them, to where we are now.
"So, you two are dating now?" Was the first question that came out of Farkle's mouth.
"Yep," Maya and I both typed in unison.
A large grin slowly grew upon Farkle's face. "FINALLY!!!"
"You saw it coming too?" Auggie asked as he turned towards him, "So, I'm not the only one?"
"Of course I did! This year, I actually had a dream where you two told me that you were dating. When I woke up, it really made me reflect upon things. That's when I started to notice how much you guys really loved each other. I mean, by the way you'd stare into each other's eyes like the rest of us weren't there and nothing else really mattered."
I felt my face heat up. "Did we used to do that a lot?" I wrote.
"Oh, yeah. Always. And then, you guys would always hold hands and always act so couple-ly, ya know? And I know it's normal for best friends, especially girls, to hug each other, but you guys would do it all the time. And, you would put your heads on each other's shoulders too. It was the cutest thing over, and it still is, assuming you guys still treat each other the same way that you did before Maya went into a coma."
Maya and I both looked at each other and blushed. We just laughed.
"Wow, so Riley and I were a couple before we were even a couple!" Maya typed on her computer.
"Oh, always! And, so I said to myself, 'you know what, Farkle? Those two are soulmates. They're in love with one another and don't even know it. They're gonna end up together someday.' And, I kept quiet about it because I wanted you guys to figure everything out for yourselves. I was waiting for you guys to realize that you have feelings for one another. I wasn't gonna play Cupid. You wanna know why?"
"Why?" Maya, Auggie, Mom, Dad, and I asked in unison.
"Because although Cupid is seen as a mythical being, he does indeed exist. You know how sometimes you can develop a crush on someone by just looking at them and without even knowing them, and then they end up being a good match for you?"
"Yeah," we all replied, "Why?"
"Well that's Cupid. I didn't need to push Riley and Maya together for them to realize that they liked each other. I decided that if it was meant to be, then they would realize that they were in love on their own. They got together without me even helping. The couple of Riley and Maya was always gonna happen, no matter what happened. Even if one of them moved, they would've gotten together. Maybe not until later, but it would have happened. And that is fate. That is destiny And that what Cupid is, the fate of love. Maya and Riley were destined to be lovers."
At this point, Maya and I were tearing up.
"That's beautiful, Farkle...," I wrote.
