My phone began to ring loudly. I jumped and fumbled to get it. I held the phone to my ear. “Hello?”

“Cecilia? Well, you’re mother told me about going to Zeron. I think it’s a splendid idea! It could be a nice change and we could always go back to visit,” Papa’s voice said through the phone. I felt my heart fall. I just didn’t know what to do. I wanted to go to Zeron but I wanted to stay on Earth. Visiting wouldn’t be the same as living. “It’s almost leaving day. Once you get home, start packing your things alright?” I gulped. I’d ask for this so I wouldn’t complain.

“Alright Papa,” I agreed glumly. With that, I said goodbye and hung up before Papa could say anything else. I guess… there was nothing wrong with leaving earth. I just didn’t want to leave Luke. He was my best friend after all. We weren’t on good terms either and I didn’t want to leave it like that. I knew it was awkward for Luke how I’d turned him down and all but I knew I needed to talk to him before it was too late.

I stood on the front step to Luke’s house. My hand was raised, preparing to knock. I stayed in that position for a long time. Just standing there, I broke out in sweat from my nervousness. I couldn’t help but let my mind travel as I stood there, frozen. I remembered when I first met Luke and all the great times we had together. I also remembered when I took Griffin here to meet Luke. My heart warmed thinking of Griffin. Even so, that little bit of misery stayed within me. I had to talk to Luke, make things right but I was too nervous to even move. Eventually I found myself marching off the steps and back home. And I still hadn’t spoken to Luke.

Griffin bounced up and down on my bed. It was one of the only pieces of furniture that wasn’t on a moving shuttle or stuffed into a box yet. “Griffin, why are you so hyper?” I asked, pausing from packing up my things. Suddenly, I felt a lot better from earlier. Griffin grinned.

“I guess I’m just um, happy that you uh… decided to come.” He said. I smiled back and continued packing. Griffin slowed his hyperactive bounces.

“Is something um… wrong? It looks ah, well like your trying to be excited but you’re… uh, not.” Griffin asked. I guess he was right. Over such a short time, Griffin already knew me as well as Luke did. Though hanging out with him made me feel better, I was still slightly worried. There was only a few more days. I was mostly done packing beside a few things but the main problem was: I still hadn’t spoken to Luke.

“Well, I’m still worried about Luke,” I admitted sheepishly. Griffin’s face hardened so I could no longer read his expression. That was enough to tell me he didn’t like this conversation. He exhaled slowly.

“Look, I know Luke’s your best friend but obviously, he’s changed. Can you just forget him? You deserve better than him,” Griffin said frowning. Long phrase, no stammering. I turned back to packing up when I realized I had already packed everything. Oh boy…

I sat down by Griffin. Watching him like this, sitting in silence, I really felt close to him. Griffin was always so kind to me. I wished he was my best friend. I wished I had fallen in love with him when I was younger. I wish he had… Oh my goodness. I think I’ve fallen for Griffin. I felt my cheeks blaze as my eyes darted around the room, searching for something to look at beside his face. I forced myself to ignore this knowledge and get back to the present.

“I’m sorry Griffin,” I muttered. “But Luke’s my best friend since I was so young. Forgetting him isn’t that easy.” Griffin’s eyes showed me he didn’t trust Luke, and he wasn’t happy with my decision. Even so, he nodded slowly showing he understood and wouldn’t judge me. “Thanks for understanding,” I said pulling him into a hug.

Kat: Tiffany slung her arm around my shoulders. “Girl, we’re going to be home in just a few minutes!” she said, beaming. I grinned back.

“I know right! This is so awesome!” I exclaimed. All our bags and things had been shipped off in the moving shuttle and I only had my purse for emergency moments when I had to buy something or I needed to fix my makeup. Tiffany reapplied her lip gloss for the third time. “If you keep doing that, you’re going to look like you’re trying too hard,” I informed her. Tiffany stopped immediately.

Don’t ask me when but practically overnight Tiffany and I were back to besties. She called and we had our girly talk about the big move to Zeron. We were totally stoked. By now, Nat was the last thing on my mind.

Tiffany’s eyes constantly were flickering to her left. I glanced over.

OH EW. EW. Omigosh. MAJOR FREAKIN EW. Dusty girl. I snapped my head around, turning away from them. Tiffany cocked her hip to the side. “Isn’t that like, Bird boy with Cecilia?” she asked dubiously. I gulped. My throat seemed clogged with disgust.

“Yup,” I managed to choke out. Tiffany wrinkled her nose.

“Are they like, dating?” She asked, as disgusted as me. I shrugged. Who would know? Like I’d care! Tiffany shook her head disapprovingly. “I can’t believe Bird boy got a date.” She frowned. Well, I guess that’s her point of view. Sure Griffin was weird but it was Dusty girl that disgusted me. Tiffany, still shaking her head, strutted past me, going towards them. I watched in amusement as she daintily sat down beside them.

I cautiously stepped closer to listen to their conversation. Dusty girl paused in her talking to glance at Tiffany. Taking this chance, Tiffany jumped. “Hey Bird boy,”

“His name is Griffin,” Cecilia snapped, interrupting. Tiffany rolled her eyes.

“Griffin, riiight. So anyway,” She waggled her eyebrows, I stifled in laughter. “Are you two dating?” she asked, but it sounded quite demanding. Cecilia glanced at Griffin. She shifted nervously. Griffin mumbled somebody, giving both Dusty girl and Tiffany surprised expressions. She got up and sauntered back to me.

She flipped her hair back, her eyes still wide. “They’re an item.”
