Cecilia: “Cecilia,” Luke called out to me.
“Yes?”
“Want me to show around a bit of Earth?” he offered. I’m a bit hesitant, I had just gone on Earth, and I wanted to run free… by myself. “We can run” he tried again.
“Fine.” I said, smiling. He always knew exactly what to say. Luke was my childhood friend and he knew me like this and that. Many girls from the underground were jealous, an emotion I didn’t quite understand. They said Luke was the most handsome of boys in our age group which I didn’t get either. I had never seen Luke as anyone beside my best friend. We bounded through the crowds of people and at one point; I caught a glimpse of that wretched Kat. She sneered at me, and I only assumed it was because of my clothes. We ran to a field, not far from the group of people, to make sure we wouldn’t get lost.
“I think I did a pretty good job, everyone is here and informed!” he said proudly, his hair swaying in the wind.
“Yup!” I agreed and we sat on a grassy hill, admiring his work.
“Hey, you see that girl in the purple shirt over there?” he asked, pointing toward a girl. I squint, slowly, I see it’s Kat.
“That’s a shirt? I thought it was a dress!” I cry out. Luke laughed. One that is known to make every girl in our age group to swoon, I finally see how nice it is.
“Yeah? What about her?”
“She seems kind of cute, you talked to her right? So what’s her name?” he asks. Luke had never seemed interested in a girl. My stomach flipped.
“Kat,” I replied.
“Cool! Hey, do you mind if I go down there to um… talk to her?” his face is red and it dawned on me that he liked horrible Kat. My chest tightens, which I don’t understand. I don’t care if Luke hangs out with other girls, I’m only his friend, and nothing more… right?
“Sure,” I say, forcing myself to give him and encouraging smile. I should be enjoying the new air I was given, but Luke is all that is on my mind. I opened up one of my favorite books to read. My eyes landed on one phrase: “Should I be happy because we’re friends… or should I be sad since that’s all we’re gonna be?” I whisper aloud. I looked up and stared at Luke’s back. I pull on my hair, hard. What was I feeling? Did I like him?
Kat: I saw Luke coming toward me again. He had been running and laughing with that dusty girl, but it was totally obvious who he liked now. “That, is Luke.” I explain to Tiffany, “and he’s totally mine.” Tiffany sniffs.
“Not if I get him first.”
“You wouldn’t dare!” I cry out. She grins at me and struts toward Luke.
“Hey, you’re Luke right? I’m Tiffany, a Zerian.” She said, batting her eyelashes. I burn with fury. Luke continuously glanced behind her, at me. I waved, and he waved back. Taking this as a cue, I walk up behind Tiffany.
“Hi Luke!” I say.
“Hey.” He says, so much more interested in me. Tiffany glares menacingly at me. “Want me to show you guys around?” he asked but I know he so totally was being polite and only wanted me to come. He tours us but stays by my side. I’m sure he is tempted to hold my hand but instead does not. Of course he didn’t know I was also in love with him. All his attention was directed toward me, a sly move to make Tiffany go away; and she does, we were finally alone. He treats me just as good as Tiffany treats me, except it’s better since he’s a guy. Everything I squeal for ends up mine.
We walked by a beautiful hill I felt was reserved for just him and me. I was so sure until I see dusty girl on it. “Cecilia!” Luke called to her, and I feel he’s not being polite this time. “Wanna join us?” he asked, flashing his super model smile. Before dusty girl looked like a lump of crap but as he said this she like brightened. Preppy loner. She walked beside Luke, and they like, totally ignored me. I reach my arm across his back and zap her. She squeaked. “Something wrong?” asked Luke
