Cecilia: I was still a little shocked with Griffin’s boldness. He really changed when talking to people like Kat and… what’s her name? Tiffany. Griffin didn’t look at me. He just sat there, beet red with his hands clasped together as he stared at the ground. I looked up at the ceiling, grinning. “So we’re dating now huh?” I asked, breaking the silence. Griffin turned two shades redder.

“Ah, um, well… sorry. I um, really hate her…” he muttered. Finally, he peeked a look at me. “Why are you um… smiling?” he asked cautiously. I laughed.

“It just seems so… unlike you,” I said with a shrug, still smiling. Mama and Papa and Griffin’s parents were off somewhere doing something and they ditched us to just wait here. Griffin frowned slightly. “What is it?” I asked.

He fidgeted uncomfortably and looked up at the high ceiling, just as I had. I don’t know why people do that, there’s nothing to see. Just wooden planks, metal beams and pipes. “Well I think I um, maybe well, actually not maybe but um…” he continued like that, stuttering nonsense and I considered tuning him out. “I like you.” He blurted out simply. Oh boy.

“Like, like- like like?” I clarified. He nodded but looking back, I might’ve been hard to understand. Wow. Well so he likes me. And I just found out I like him too. That’s awkward. Griffin smiled sheepishly. Oh yeah, he’s still waiting for my response. I grinned back. “I’m pretty sure I like you too Griffin,” I said with a genuine smile. “I think that’s why I turned Luke down a while ago.” I added.

“So um… well, ah, um… Cecilia? Will you um… go out with me?” He asked. Call it cheesy but it’s nice how he was formal. I placed my head on his shoulder.

“Yup.” The reply came instantly Griffin got up to "do something" and I smacked my forehead. I was so not good with this stuff. So now we're officially dating. Joy and nervousness swirled inside me. Well it was my first time... I felt myself blushing furiously.

When Griffin came back he sat beside me. "So... what um, now?" he asked. I shrugged. I still felt my face burning and I tried to cover it with my short hair. I leaned forward and propped my elbows on my knees.

"I dunno. I'm not used to this kinda stuff," I told him honestly. I dared to sneak a glance on him. I read in a book that once you like someone, they're a lot more attractive. Wow.

Griffin laughed nervously. "I'm not really used to this stuff either." he admitted. I grinned at him.

"Well we're in this together," I agreed. I leaned back so that our shoulder touched. Thinking back, I was never quite this nervous with Luke even though I swear I liked Luke so much back then. It's different with Griffin, not that I minded. The intercom crackled overhead. From what Griffin's told me, technology is really high so I wondered why intercoms couldn't work better.

"ATTENTION. PLEASE CHECK IN AT THE FRONT. TWELVE MINUTES UNTIL THE SHUTTLE FOR ZERON WILL LEAVE. PLEASE CHECK IN NOW AND PREPARE TO LEAVE." the loud croaky voice echoed around the crowded yet large area. I glanced at Griffin. Well, it's time to go. I quickly called Mama and we agreed to just sign in on our own since our seats were next to each other anyway.

Griffin held my hand as we walked over to the front. there were actually plenty of people preparing to leave for Zeron. I glanced around nervously at all the familiar and unfamiliar faces. I held Griffin's hand tightly as we weaved in and out of the crowds. It would be terrible to get lost here.

Finally, we reached the front desk. Griffin signed in for me as well as himself. I saw Mama and Papa and Griffin's family. I hurried over to them. We all just sat there, waiting for the gates to open so we could leave.

Many of my school friends were there as well, preparing to say goodbye. Everyone said goodbye, there were hugs and tears and promises to meet again. I ignored all the commotion for my mind was busy. Where was Luke? I knew he probably wouldn't want to see me but would he really make me leave without saying goodbye?

I peeked over people's heads and between their bodies. Luke was absolutely not here. Or was he late? He couldn't be. There was only seven minutes left. I sighed in defeat. So our friendship was over. Just like that. It was as if it had meant nothing to him. I wanted to cry out in frustration, sadness, and disappointment. I pushed through crowd, leaving Griffin and the others so I could be alone. "Cecilia?" Griffin called out. But I ignored him. It felt nice that he worried about me but... I still wanted to be alone.

When I finally broke through the crowd I finally saw him. Not Griffin. Luke. So he was here. Seeing my best friend, knowing it would be too long before we met again. I wanted to cry so badly.

I ran into his arms and pulled him into a great hug. "Luke! I thought you wouldn't come!" I cried out, tears rolling down my cheeks. I didn't know if I was sad to leave or if I was happy to see him. Maybe both. He just held me silently, stoking my head.

"Don't look up at my face 'kay?" he said silently. I looked up anyway. His eyes were red and tears were welling up. He quickly wiped them away. Luke managed a little laughed as he pinched my nose. "I told you not to look! Guys aren't supposed to cry." he said, his voice a hoarse sound, barely audible because of the commotion around us.

I held him tighter, looking at him straight in the eyes, I saw all his pain, but I could tell. He was still happy for me. As my best friend, I knew he would support me. Luke managed a small smile. "I will miss you so so much." I whispered, but he still heard.

"Me too," he replied, speaking more of into my hair. "I love you Cecilia. I really do." he murmured. My mind stopped working for a moment. I knew that Luke was a great guy but when I truly thought of it, thought of the person I really loved that way, it was Griffin. Not Luke.

"I love you too Luke. But as a friend." I said. he simply nodded.

"I'm rejected again," he muttered humorlessly. "But that's okay. I knew that. Griffin's your guy." he let go and pushed me back toward the crowd. "You go live your life. Just visit. We're still best friends right?" he pushed me harder, making sure I went back in. As I gave in and hurried back into the crowd I turned and looked over my shoulder once.

"Right," I called out so he could hear me. "Best friends forever!" I grinned and waved as I ran back. Luke waved back.

I saw Griffin waiting for me anxiously by the gate. "Where um.. were you it's uh almost time!" he asked nervously. I looked down at my watch.

"I have a few seconds to spare," I teased. Griffin rolled his eyes. He leaned in toward me. he brushed my hair aside. I felt my face heat up.

"Was it Luke?" he asked quietly in my ear. I simply nodded. He seemed to understand. He held my hand quietly and we and everyone else quieted as the gates opened to the shuttle. Just a few moments until we were at Zeron. I squeezed Griffin's hand tightly. "Are you ready?" he asked.

"Definitely."
