Tears rolled down Links cheeks, Rhett put his arm around him and tried to comfort him.
" How did you figure it out? "
Link mumbled something, Rhett couldn't understand what he was saying.
" Speak up buddy. "
Link took a deep breath and wiped his tears.
" I was checking the system. And I saw those numbers. The numbers of doom. We've officially been infected, it won't be long until it'll enter our bodies. "
Rhett sighed.
" Link. Are you sure that it were exactly those numbers? "
" Completely. "
Rhett sighed again, he knew Link was telling the truth, he just didn't want to belive him. They'd lost the fight against technical infections, they weren't able of protecting themselves or their loved ones. Although, hope hadn't left him, yet. A large majority of the population was still not infected, but no cure had been found, meaning the virus still spread all over the world, quickly.
" What if we keep it from entering our bodies. " Rhett nervously mumbled.
" And how exactly are we going to do that? "
" We're one of the few people on earth who still know how to program MPC's, and you know those digital chambers? "
Digital chambers had been developed long ago in order to enter the human body or other major computer systems to repair them, do microsurgery or fight of viruses. So far no one had stepped into a human body, trying to cure them from the virus. And very few attempt of curing robots or computer systems had been made. Usually robot were put in digital chambers and were put in an virtual reality state being able to react with the computer system or human in real person. Although their own health were put on edge due to that viruses could easily infect them or even eat them alive, depending on the intensity of the infection or malfunction.
" Are you suggesting we go in one of those? " Link sighed.
" I wish I could answer it any other way. "
" But what if we get infected, or die? "
Rhett sighed again. He didn't want to take the risk of dying, but at the same time he knew they could actually might save the world.
" Secondly, I know nothing about biology. " Link sighed.
" But you do know a lot about computers. What if we cure a computer, tell doctors how we did it and then proceed to try and help them find a cure for humans? "
Link smiled a little, still wiping tears from his face.
" It's indeed true, but still. It scares me. "
" It scares me too, like crazy. Just the thought of it. "
