Disconnected (Rhett&Link fan-fic)

Ready, set, go

Today was the day. Rhett and Link would be put in suspension, hooked up to two digital chambers. As they entered the clinic they once again put on protective clothing and went into the laboratory, Marie met them there, smiling just like she normally did.

" Morning gentlemen, today's the big day. "

During the day before they'd been trained on how to interact with a virus and how to defeat it with a minimal risk of getting infected. They knew they would be provided with a few simple things to defeat and defend. Large syringes filled with nerve-numbing liquids, virtual reality helmets to be able to talk to Marie and other scientists while still in suspension and tools to demolish the virus and destroy its toxins. Their wives and children followed them to the clinic this morning, this was one of the most dangerous but important things Rhett and Link would ever do. Link was shaking as their wives left them outside the suspension room. Maria and three other scientists waited for them there. One of the three was the old man they met earlier the same week, an other was a young ginger girl with freckles and the third was a young man, looking like he was in his early 30's. Maria smiled and started introducing them.

" You've already met Dr. Goal, this is Silver and Ronnie. "

The ginger girl waved and the young man went up to shake their hands.

" Ronnie Bowling, neurosurgeon. This is my sister Silver Bowling, she's a fourteen year old student here. "

Rhett and Link shook her hand.

" Well gentlemen, it's time. " Dr. Goal said.

Rhett looked over at Link, Link's skin was pale and his hands were shaking. They put on the digital body suits, these suits would mesure all their body stats, blood pressure, brain activity, nerv impulses, salt and water levels and respiratory levels. Since the digital chamber put a lot pressure on their bodies it was important to make sure no vital levels dropped. Before the digital chambers was closed they were hooked up to IVs that kept them hydrated.

Link layed down and looked over at Rhett, Rhett looked back. They then looked over at their wifes and children standing outside the laboratory. Locke gave his father a thumbs up, Rhett responded with a smile.

" Okay, are you guys ready? " Maria asked.

They nodded and the door to the chambers slowly started closing.

" Digitalisation starting in, 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1 " A robotic voice counted. " 0, digitalisation beginning..."
