Lalna only remembered little bits of preschool but the memories he did keep were some of the happiest he had, second to the ones with Rythian of course.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Eyo! What's your name?" 2 boys waddles up to the blonde. The child grinned "Lalna! But my daddy calls me his coffeebean!" The boys grinned at him "Hello Lalna, I'm Ryd-i-an and this is Xep-ohs." He pointed to the boy next to him. "Wanna make castles?" The dark-haired boy giggled, pointing to a sandbox a couple feet away. The blonde nodded "Sure!"
"Lalna, do you wanna be a prince or a princess?" A small girl called Nano had joined them in their escapades as they figured out a story behind their fortress of sand. "I will be the prince!" Lalna giggled.
"Oh oh! I can be the knight!" Rythian yelled excitedly, picking up a stick and brandishing it like a sword. "Then me and Xeph are dragons and you have to save the prince!" Nano exclaimed, flailing her arms about excitedly.
Oh those happy days..
~~~~~~~~~~~

Lalna could remember most of elementary, names and such escaped him but he had the basic gist of what happened.

~~~~~~~~~~~
It was the first day of 2nd grade. Nano, Lalna, and Rythian walked down their street towards the school chattering happily. Nano's mum had made her wear a skirt which she was currently complaining about. Lalna was glad he didn't have to wear one of those, they sounded awful. Rythian clutched Lalna's hand reassuringly, the blonde was always slightly nervous on the first day.
"I'm glad I don't have to wear that stuff, boy's clothes are so much more comfy." Lalna exclaimed as Nano tugged her skirt down for the 4th time.
"Your lucky your parents let you be a boy, but I like dresses so this is the price I have to pay!" Nano gestured dramatically in the air, grinning at her friends.
Lalna wrinkled his nose "I still don't know why you like those things."
"To each their own." Rythian sighed.
"Yes, to each their own." Lalna agreed.
~~~~~~~~~~

The most vivid memory Lalna had was 5th grade, when people had started to... mature. It had been the most terrifying experience in his life.

~~~~~~~~~~
"Rythian I don't like it." They had just had their first health class and Lalna was curled up in the darker boy's lap under a tree. Nano was off with Lomadia talking about girl stuff as Lalna had a minor breakdown about what was gunna happen to him.
"It's- It's not right!" He exclaimed, burying his nose in the taller boy's chest. Rythian hugged him closer. "It's okay Lalna."
"It's not okay! It's not! I don't want to be a- a girl!" He sobbed, shaking violently.
"Your not a girl! Remember your mum always said you could be whatever you wanted right? So you can be a boy. My auntie used to be a boy and she wears dresses and stuff, remember? You met her at my party last summer." Lalna nodded, remembering.
"Auntie Mabel right? She was nice..." He stared down at his hands.
"Thank you Rythy."
"Your welcome Lalna."
~~~~~~~~~~

He remembered every second of high school. It could only be described as torture.

~~~~~~~~~~
They were standing in PE class and the coach was splitting them up.
Lalna had stood in the boy's line next to Rythian but the coach frowned at his clipboard.
"No games Lalna, get in your line."
The blonde had stared at him confused. This was his line.
"Get in your line girl!" Tears began to stir in his eyes but he followed the instructions meekly as whispered erupted in the class.
"Thats a girl?" "They can't be in this line what's the coach playing at, he's obviously a boy!" "Shut up you idiot, the girl has boobs you can plainly see!" "Why are they dressed in boy's clothes?" "Weirdo" "Gay" "Poser" "Freak"
The whispers continued throughout class as Rythian stared at him sadly.
He knew this was going to happen.
"Hey freak! What are you doing in the boy's bathroom you little pansy? Got lost?" The bully sneered at him and Lalna got out as quickly as he could.
"Eww theres a boy! Theres a boy in the girls bathroom!" Shrieks erupted as he tentatively stepped into the room next door. He was immediately shoved out by a shrieking cheerleader. Tears built up in his eyes for the second time today.
I want elementary back.
"It's gunna be okay Lal. We can do this." They had finally gotten home and Rythian had opted to going over to Lalna's, he needed someone right now.
"Ryth I-I can't do this for the whole of high school! This is just the first day!" Lalna was sobbing as Ryth held him in his arms.
"Look Lal, I can't promise you it will get better today. I can't promise you it will get better tomorrow. Heck I can't even promise it will be good next week. But I can promise you that I will love you for you, and that eventually this shit will die down, and eventually these morons will stop picking on you, and eventually you are going to be okay. So don't give up on me alright?" The teen looked him in the eyes.
Lalna nodded and leaned up to kiss him. Rythian lowered his head so that they could meet. Sitting in silence for a couple minutes, they comforted each other with small touches and let each other's warmth wash over them.
It would be alright...
~~~~~~~~~~~

Lalna was glad Ryth kept that promise. Glad that things had turned out okay in the end. And glad that Ryth had stayed by his side and helped him overcome even the hardest of challenges.

Because they could always do it. Together.
