The Plan

We spent hours in the bombed out town, drinking and talking. I was lucky my metabolism prevented me from getting drunk, because the amount that we drank would've given me the biggest hangover in history the next morning.

But Andi wasn't so fortunate. She wasn't immune. She'd drunk so much her words were slurring and she couldn't walk in a straight line. Actually, she couldn't walk period. She sort of stumbled.

I gazed outside. The sun was rising into the dawn sky. We'd spent the whole night in the bar.

I patted Andi's hand. "I think we should get going."

Her eyes rolled upwards to look at me. "Whyyy?"

"We've got a job to do."

"Aww." She grasped the bottle and turned it upside down, a single drop falling to the table.

"No, no," I chuckled as I took the bottle from her. "No more for you."

I stood and took her arm, helping her to her feet. "Come on."

"Oookay," she slurred.

With one step, she toppled over. I grabbed her waist to stop her from falling face first into the bar floor.

"Andi?"

She went completely limp. She was out. She was definitely not good at holding her liquor.

I slipped an arm under her legs and firmly kept my other around her back, lifting her from her feet. Her head rested against my chest. "Let's get you outta here."

I carefully carried her out of the bar and headed to the exit of the town.

I'd walked there. I'd wanted to clear my head, and the forest path was a nice way to do it. So I was surprised when I saw my motorcycle parked outside. Andi must have ridden it to the town.

I delicately placed her on the back of it and sat on it myself. I secured her arms around my waist, her head resting on my back. I revved it and drove off, taking it carefully down the road back to the SSR Headquarters.
