Chapter 7; Cousins!

Maria's P.O.V.

I woke up on the floor, naked, with my blanket half on me, half on my bed. I sat up and looked around, remembering what happened last night. I quickly wrapped my blanket around myself and stood up. I started to search my apartment for Jake. He wasn't here. I sighed in relief. I walked back into my room and changed into some comfy pajamas. 

Times like this makes me wish I had other family I could go to. I feel bad spilling all my problems onto Haley. I try not too so often, she does have her own.. I walked into the living and grabbed my phone and turned on Lullabies by ATL.

I don't know why but I feel a strong connection to this song. I went to twitter and checked it. "@JackAllTimeLow: Met some cool chicks today. Gotta love Baltimore." 

I smiled and favorited it. I saw that Jack and Alex had followed me. I tweeted; "@Dear_Maria: Bad night.. listening to lullabies. Miss my mom and cousin."

I put my phone down and ran to the door and made sure it was locked. It was. My phone went off. It made a tweeting noise, signaling it was twitter. I sat back down. Haley tweeted me. "@Haleyis_cool: @Dear_Maria: Want me to stop by? And you never told me you had a cousin..?"

I quickly tweeted her back, "@Dear_Maria: @Haleyis_cool Please. And I never wanted to talk about it. His name was Tom, he had a drinking problem, he died in his sleep. Only met him twice." I sighed.

I walked into the bathroom and washed my face. It was all oily and gross. I couldn't stand it anymore. I heard my phone go off again and groaned as I walked back into the living room.

"@Haleyis_cool: @Dear_Maria I'm sorry. That sucks big time.. Did you at least go to his funeral? I'm on my way btw"

I tweeted back; "@Dear_Maria: @Haleyis_cool It's okay. No, my mom wanted too but she didn't know the rest of the family and didn't want to intrude even though we got an invite." 

Alex randomly joined in our conversation, "@AlexAllTimeLow: @Dear_Maria @Haleyis_cool I feel ya. My brother was an alcholic as well, died in his sleep too.. his name was Tom too. Matter in fact, lullabies is about him."

That's weird. "@Haleyis_cool: @AlexAllTimeLow @Dear_Maria just throwin this out there but what if it was the same person? Like what if you two are related?"

I face palmed. Haley is crazy. Then again my mom did say the only thing she knew about the rest of the family is that someone in it was in a band. She could never think of the bands name though. 

"@Dear_Maria: @Haleyis_cool @AlexAllTimeLow Alex call me." A minute later my phone began to ring.

"What's up?" He said. "About my cousin, and you're brother.." I trailed off. "Are you really considering what Haley said?" He said, he kinda sounded annoyed which was new.

"Well, I don't know. If you don't wanna talk about it I completely understand, it's just my mom said that the only thing she knew about the rest of the family was that someone was in a band but she could never think of the name.." I explained. He sighed. "Does your mom have a cellphone?" He asked. 

"Yes, why?" I responded. "Three-way." I quickly dialed my moms phone number. It rang 3 times. "Maria? How are you? How was the concert?" She asked. "Uh, good, good. Mom I have my friend Alex on the phone with us. I met him and his band All Time Low-" I said All Time Low slowly seeing maybe if she would remember it. "- at warped. He says he had a brother-" She cut me off, "yES!" she shouted. "That was the band. All Time Low, Tom.. Tom showed me a few songs. One was called Coffeshop soundtrack or something like that." She said. "Did it go something like this.." Alex began to sing. 

"Should I write myself out of the history books 

And mark a place in time for every chance you took?

Don't get me wrong,

I know you've got you're life in place

I've yet to take the hint, someday

I'm sure I'll get the picture"

Alex continued and my mom joined in..

"And stop waiting up when it all comes down" She laughed.

"Yes, yes. That's it." I could feel her warm smile. I haven't heard her laugh in years. "So I guess this means we're family." I said, more like asked. "Wow that's weird, I can't believe I've never met you guys before." He said.

"I've gotta go now sweetie, you're father will be home any minute now and he'd kill me if he found out I was using the telephone." She said.

"My name is Patricia by the way, Alex. It was nice talking to you." She stated. "Mom, wait. Can I come pick you up. Would you like to stay the night with me." I offered. "Hun, you're father would murder me if he found out." "Sorry to interrupt what's your husbands name?" Alex asked. "David." She replied.

"Yeah yeah. My mom mentioned you all once before. She says no one bothered to keep in contact with you cause they didn't wanna be around him. Tom felt bad and kept in contact. Holy shit, he mentioned Maria once. He said that I would like her and Jack would fall hopelessly in love. He was gonna set up a day for us all to meet after tour.. but then he.. yeah." Alex explained.

I kinda laughed to myself about the Jack part. "Wait what about me?" I heard Jack scream in the back. "Nothing." Alex shouted back. "Warped is over in two days then we come back to Baltimore, maybe we could all get dinner?" Alex asked.

"That'd be great. I'll let David know, I'm sure he wouldn't mind finally meeting some family. Let me know a date and time when you figure it out. I have to go now. Goodbye." She hung up. "Family!" Alex said. I laughed. "That's nice to know. My inspiration is my cousin. The guy who saved my life countless times is my cousin." I said.

"I feel special." He said. "You should!" I said. I frowned remembering what happened earlier tonight. "Alex are you busy right now?" I asked. "Nope." He said. "Is anyone in the room with you?" I asked.

"Just Jack." He replied. "HI!" Jack shouted. "Can he hear me?" "Nah, he just heard me say his name." He explained. "Stahp talking about me Alex gosh you're making me blush." Jack said in a girly tone.

I couldn't but help to laugh. 

"Can I talk to you, Alex. In private. Meaning Jack has to leave the room." I said. "Jack leave!" He shouted. "RUDE!" I heard Jack yell. "I'm talking to my cousin go away!" Alex yelled back. "I thought you were talking to Maria?" Jack asked. "I am, come to find out she's my cousin, now shoo shoo!" Alex explained. I laughed to myself.

"Alright he's gone." Alex said. "Spill." He could tell something was up. I told him everything that happened when they left..

I started to cry. "Maria.. I'm sorry. We should've walked you in before we left. " He apologized. "No no it's fine. Don't blame yourself." I said. "I swear to god I will kick his ass if I ever see him again." Alex threatened. "Have Haley stay with you the next two days so I know you're safe." He ordered.

He just found out he's my cousin and he's acting like a big brother. It seemed weird at first, but I would get used to it. "Alright." I said. "Do you wanna talk to Jack?" He asked.

I heard a car door. I looked out the window and saw Haley. "No, I just heard Haley. Give him my number though please."

"Will do. Goodnight, love you." He said. I smiled. "Love you too." I hung up. Haley walked in. She had a spare key. "Are you okay?" She asked. "Yeah. So come to find out, I just got off the phone with Alex and my mom anddd we are family." I announced. Her eyes grew big. "WOW. ONLY IF WE KNEW THIS SOONER." She shouted. I kinda laughed. "I still hate myself for not talking to them in highschool." She said. 

"Same." I replied. I decided not to tell her what happened with Jake. "Wanna watch Home Alone?" I asked. "Yes!" She shouted. I turned on the t.v. and pressed play. 

"By the way, Alex wants you to stay with me for the next two days until they get back."
