Well that’s new

After Chogan leaves, I take a few minutes to gather my thoughts before heading down stairs. I find Honey and Ky sitting rather closely on the couch. I clear my throat and they jump to opposite ends.

I chuckle, “Honey, I’m really tired I’m just going to head to bed.”

Honey eyes me, “Is everything ok?” she asks noting my still flush face.

“Yep, I’m just tired.” I say too quickly.

“We’ll talk about it tomorrow.” she says catching me in my lie.

I sigh, nod, and bid the pair goodnight. I jog up the stairs and turn the corner, running into Nick.

“Oh, I’m sorry!” I exclaim.

Nick chuckles, “It’s alright.”

I smile at him, say goodnight, and go to my room.

I lie down on the bed and burrow into the covers, letting them surround me with their warmth. I close my eyes and smile to myself,  that kiss might have been a mistake but it was a very good kiss. I fall asleep thinking of it.

***********

I lay in a meadow full of wild flowers, basking in the sun and letting all my worries fade away. I heard a rustling next to me and smile without opening my eyes.

“I’ve been waiting for you all day!” I chuckle as he slips his hand into mine.

“I’m sorry love, I got caught up.” he says, gently brushing some loose strands of hair from my face and touches his lips to mine.

He voice sounds different today; I open my eyes and find myself starring at Chogan and not Marshal, who has always been the main character in this dream.

He smiles at me and I cannot help but smile back at him. He lies down on his back and pulls me gently down with him, laying my head on his chest. We stare at the sky silently, not needing to say anything and I wonder why Chogan seemed to be in this dream and not Marshal.

Suddenly the sky turns dark, and it gets very cold, Chogan stands quickly and grabs my hand.

“You must get out of here they have found us.” He says hauling me off the ground and pushing me toward the path of trees north of us.

“Run Aura before it’s too late!” He yells at me and I run.

I run onto the forest and stop hiding behind a tree, unable to leave Chogan all alone.

Devon appears and I see him walk up to Chogan. They seem to argue but I cannot hear what is being said. All of a sudden Devon pulls out a knife and stabs Chogan in the heart. I scream and jump from behind the tree; Chogan looks at me and falls back, his head hitting the ground with a thud. I run toward them and watch Devon disappear, leaving Chogan’s body. I reach Chogan and drop to my knees next to him sobbing. Taking his head, I place it in my lap.

“Please, please don’t die please don’t leave me!” I sob stroking his hair.

“I’m so sorry, Aura. I love you so much…” He reaches up and touches my cheek.

I keep sobbing and stroking his hair. He closes his eyes then slowly his hand drops from my face, and he stops breathing…

*******************

My eyes flutter open and I feel a few tears slid down my cheeks. I sit up, wiping the tears away. Ripping off the covers, I slide out of bed. Opening the door, I stick my head out and make sure the coast is clear; I don’t want anyone to see me cry. I walk down the stairs and through the living room, into the kitchen. I switch on the lights, grab a bottle of water from the refrigerator then take a seat at the counter.

“Aura?” someone says from behind me and I jump.

I hurriedly wipe my face and turn to face Chogan.

“Chogan! You scared me.” I say putting my hand to my chest.

Chogan takes look at my face and steps forward to pull me into his arms.

“Aura, what’s wrong?” he mutters into my hair.

I put my head on his chest. “Nightmares.” I mutter.

He strokes my hair. “You want to talk about it?”

I shake my head and hold on to him tighter, a few tears sliding down my cheeks.

Chogan scoops me up bridal style and carries me up stairs. He opens the door to my room and gentle sets me on the bed. Then he walks into the bathroom and comes back with a wet cloth. Kneeling in front of me he wipes my face off and returns the cloth to the bathroom.

He comes back into the room and picks me up again. Pulling back the covers with one hand, he lays me in the bed and climbs in next to me. He pulls the covers over us and takes me back into his arms.

“You don’t have to stay.” I whisper looking into his eyes.

“I don’t have to, but I want to.” He looks back at me and kisses me softly.

“Now go to sleep, I won’t let anything hurt you.” He says and I lay my head on his chest.

A few minutes later I am fast asleep.
