Chapter 18

Things kept in the dark always come to the light

Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off- Panic at the Disco

When I walk into the kitchen, Honey stands and opens her arms. Walking into them, I fight back tears and rest my head on her shoulder.

“I can’t go back....” I mutter into her hair, trying not to sob.

“I promise I will do everything I can to make sure you won’t have to.” She strokes my hair, rocking me gently.

I take a deep breath, wipe my tears away, and step out of her arms, “Let’s get down to business.”

Everyone takes their seat and Honey hands me a bottle of water.

“We need to catch you up on your lessons because we are running out of time.” I toy with my water bottle unable to look at anyone.

“We are actually caught up, I tried to cram in as much as possible while you where…out.” Honey says.

I smile up at her gratefully, “Thanks.”

“Are you alright?” Nick asks, gently taking my hand.

“I’m fine just a little shaken.” Everyone nods but doesn’t look too convinced.

“Time is running out, the battle with the Shadow King draws near.” I bite my lip, suddenly reluctant to say the next thing.

“Hold on I’ll be right back,” I jog upstairs to my room, searching for my bag.

I dig in my bag frantically, suddenly afraid I had lost it. Sighing with relief, I grab the item I’ve been searching for and rush back down stairs.

Reclaiming my seat, I grab Chogan’s hand and take a deep breath, “This is the dagger you must kill her with,”

I slide the dagger across the table and he catches it with his free hand, “Her?”

I bite my lip and look at Honey; she looks as uncomfortable as me.

“Aura, what do you mean by her?” Chogan asks a little forcefully.

Closing my eyes, I sigh, “Alana…you have to kill her, killing the Shadow King was never your job… it was mine.” I whisper the last part.

“You lied to me; you told me I had to defeat the Shadow King, not Alana. You never said anything about Alana.” He rips his hand from mine and shots out of his chair, knocking it to the floor.

“I knew if I told you, you wouldn’t have accepted our help. You would have been unprepared and she would have killed you. Don’t you understand? I had to lie.” I blink several times and stare at my water bottle.

“Ok maybe that true for the beginning, but what about after? Did it even go through your head to tell me before now? Damn it Aura look at me!”

I stand up quickly, knocking my chair against the wall. Putting my hands on my hips I glare at him, “Don’t you dare raise your voice at me! I’ll be the first to admit that I should have told you before now and I’m sorry I didn’t, however; every time I was going to tell you, you missed a lesson or you had something up your ass!”

“You are some chosen angel. Are you all good liars or is lying just your specialty?” He sneers in my face.

I chuckle humorlessly, “Baby I am THE chosen angel. Everything is my specialty, that’s why they send me to deal with you! And your one to talk, are all werewolves assholes or does being help you sleep better at night?”

“Get out.” He mutters dangerously.

I snort, “Gladly.”

I leave the kitchen and calming collect my things. Ky and Nick watch quietly, while Honey tries to talk me out of it.

“Aura you can’t leave! If you don’t finish his lessons he will die trying to fight her!” Honey pleads with me.

“You can say and finish his lessons; I’ll still be at the battle. I’ll take care of my job when it’s time but right now I have to go.” I smile sadly.

“I know I’m dumping a lot on you but I just can’t stay,” She nods and hugs me tightly.

“Good luck with Ky, you guys are a cute couple.” I give her another squeeze and let her go.

She blushes, “Take care of yourself Baby Doll.”

“You too Honeybunch.” After giving Ky and Nick a little wave, I turn my back and walk away.
