Steven's POV
"Thank you." I said sincerely. Kevin had taken in a complete, and wanted, stranger into his home.
"Your welcome Steven." Kevin said and went down the stairs. I stared after him and wanted him to stay, but I was really bad at asking for things so I didn't bother. I sighed and went back into the room. I flopped down on the bed and closed my eyes, instantly falling asleep.
I had a horrible nightmare. I was in a dark forest, filled with the sounds of the scientists shouting at each-other to look for me. I was terrified. It felt so real. I sprinted to the top of a hill and looked down. There was Kevin's house. I half ran, half stumbled down the grassy hill and dove through an open window.
I saw Kevin shaking as he was watching a report on the news about how I escaped. The noise I made jumping through the window cause him to turn around and his eyes were filled with horror. I tried to talk to him, but he immeadiately ran to the kitchen and pulled out a large kitchen knife.
I ran, Kevin still chasing after me. We ran throughout the house for awhile and I actually thought I could make it out. Until I tripped and fell down the stairs. I lay on the hard wood floors, groaning in pain. I watch with terror as I saw Kevin's looming figure above me.
"K-Kevin, p-please don't," I shouted, although I was still regaining my breath, so it came out as more of a croak. I saw his dark eyebrows narrow with anger. He raised the knife above my chest and I wached with tears in my eyes as he slammed the sharp utensil into my ribcage.
I woke up sobbing, my face stained with tears. I clutched my chest which was still stinging as if a knife did go through it. I was hyperventilating, barely being able to see my surroundings for I wasn't focusing on anything.
I thought I was going crazy until I heard a Kevin's worried, but gentle voice..
"St-Steven, can you hear me? What happened? Are you alright? Steven?" His voice kept ringing through my ears and I was snapped out of my trance when I heard a boom. It was thunder, great, that will help with my mental breakdown.
I jumped at the noise, it's booming sounding a lot louder with my enhanced hearing. I clinged to Kevin, shaking fiercely. He tensed at first, but quickly relaxed. I felt like I was going to explode from the noise and the quick beating of my heart.
Even though I was as close to Kevin I could be, I couldn't make out what he was saying. I just listened to his soothingly deep voice and stopped trembling. My breathing eventually evened out and I could actually understand what Kevin was saying.
"Steven?" He asked gently.
"Y-Yes?" I whispered, not wanting to start crying again.
"What happened back there?"
"I had a nightmare that really g-got to me, and the thunderstorm didn't help." I say, feeling like I could fall asleep any moment now. I felt him nod, and when I fell asleep in his warm embrace, he didn't push me away like I thought he would.
I snuggled my face into the crook of neck and felt the heat on his cheeks. I smiled, and fell asleep, this time not having any nightmares, but blissful dreams of Kevin's warm gaze and his beautiful voice.
