This is the last day of prom. Some chapters may be a bit abrupt, but that's because I want to rush the book. I think at most 10 more chapters before I'm done. Enjoy!
---------------------------
I rolled over to one side. The white ceiling of my room blurred into view."Urgh," I moaned. I checked the time. It was already 5pm. I jumped out of bed with a shriek and grabbed a towel.
I bathed, the hot water washing away the remaining pieces of sleep in my head. I blew dry my hair, careful not to miss a single spot. When my hear was smooth and soft, I tied it in a tight ponytail and walked to the wardrobe.
I unhooked the big black bag containing my dress for the very last night of prom. I would have to make it last. All my other dresses that I had worn for the other nights still hung in my wardrobe, though I doubt I would ever use it again.
As I unzipped the zipper, thoughts of the dreadful night at prom swamped my mind. I forced them out of my head and padlocked the gates. But, of course, the thoughts that were water seeped through the gates, no problem.
I pulled out a beautiful dress. It was made of amazingly soft pink silk. It was sewed in the shape of my breasts, while it thinned out towards the waist. The silk creased and folded in drapes and fell down the dress, darkening as it reached the ground. A dark pink ribbon was tied around the waist, giving contrast to the upper and lower halves. Matching heels were provided at the bottom of the bag. Diamond earrings, not dangling, hung beside the dress. As usual, a packet of pins and rubber bands were given too.
I slipped into the silky material of the dress, admiring its beauty. I put on the earnings carefully. Picking up my makeup, I contemplated what to do.
In the end, I decided just to go for a natural look. I powdered my face after applying foundation. A few dusts of blusher would do, and light pink eyeshadow would do. When this was done, I used quick strokes on my eyebrows.
"Done!" I decided and kept the makeup. 6.30pm, I should get going.
Wait... Hair!! I haven't done my hair yet! I rummaged through the bag for the packet of hair pins. I could imagine the look in my head. I curled my hair first in long ringlets. Then, I wound part of it on top of my head. I hurriedly stuck pins into it, holding it in place.
I stepped into the pink heels and ran downstairs.
"Wow, Vivian... You look just like your mother," Dad smiled sadly. I laughed,"Thanks! Can you send me?"
"Sure," he replied. We rushed to the car and sped off.
This was the last night. The last time I would ever do this since I was already in senior year. I took deep breaths. 15 minutes late, that was hardly anything. I thanked Dad and slammed the car door behind me. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me and entered the ballroom.
Everyone had their eyes on me as the room lapsed into silence. Everyone was gawking at me. I shifted from foot to foot. I didn't know I was... Well, stunning. Bryce walked up,"Wow! Come'n!" I glared at him,"don't you even dare." He shrunk back against the wall as the boys laughed.
"Well, someone went for the top today!" Kelly came up and crowed. I giggled and blushed,"Thanks! You look beautiful too!" She thanked me and pulled my hand as we went off. Olivia stood by the side with her minions.
"So, you and Bryce got in a fight, huh! I wonder why?" She sneered. I ignored her, but heard her shout,"Don't worry, I will find out." I rolled my eyes. Kelly retorted,"That girl is nothing but trouble." I nodded in agreement. Girls were gossiping around me, no doubt about me. Boys were staring at me hungrily, making me inch away cautiously.
"I'm not coming to school next week," I whispered to Kelly. "Why?" She asked. I told her about Mum and her condition and her letter to me. Kelly looked shocked,"I hope she will be ok." I just smiled warmly at her.
Kelly could be pretty when she wanted to. She had dyed her red hair brown, and was wearing a sleeveless dress. It had a gold band at the top and was black and white patterns downwards. She was holding a gold clutch purse, with matching gold heels. She wore hardly any makeup, going for a more natural look.
Amelia and Alice walked by and sat down next to us. She seemed to be able to have a civil conversation with Kelly now. We four avoided the topic of Bryce or any boys. I decided not to tell the rest about Mum. I could not trust them. They might betray me.
The night was coming to an end. The boys had had too many drinks and were straggling around, flirting with other girls. Amelia and Kelly didn't seem to mind, though.
Amelia had on a dark blue dress, the material folding in at the lower half. Her top half coincided with her breasts and circled in creases. She wore high blue stilettos. She wore thick eyeliner and red lipstick. Her wrists were wrapped with bangles and her neck with necklaces. Her hair was in a simple bun, not a hair out of place.
Alice was wearing a purple lace dress. The patterns were flowers, winding throughout the dress. Her hair was wavy and sat to one side. She also wore purple heels.
Alicia on the other hand went for simple. Her dress was a light blue and had white patterns on it. Her hair was in a plait with a black bow at the end. Her dress was billowing out in layers and layers, a heavy masterpiece. She wore a necklace and blue flats.
Olivia's dress was silver till the waist, and merged into colors of blue, purple, pink and white for the bottom half in delicate sheets of lace. She wore silver sparkly heels and her hair was up in a bun, a fringe drooping down.
"May I have this dance?" A voice whispered in my ear. I turned around in surprise. Bryce. There were only a few minutes left. I sighed,"As friends, right?" He nodded. I smiled and took his hand,"I would be honored." A slow waltz sounded. Bryce and I waltzed around the room gracefully. He twirled me around the room gracefully, lifting me up at the right notes. We moved in synchrony and waltzed around the room amidst claps. I whispered to Bryce,"Just promise me something." He asked,"What?" I replied with a grin,"Don't break Alice's heart." He nodded with a laugh. "I won't." He promised.
I relaxed and laid my head on his shoulder, where we danced for the rest of the night.
