I slung my leather backpack over my shoulder as I stepped into the car seat beside Mum. She was driving me to school today. I gotta say, it was nice having a mother. I had immediately told her about Bryce, Amelia and Kelly, Jonathan—'No!' Her reaction had been— and pretty much every other problem in my whole life. She had helped me choose out my clothes for today. Just a white T-Shirt with a blue cardigan as today was not that cold. Along with a maroon-colored scarf and skinny denim jeans that enunciated the shape of my legs. She had brushed my hair out while I rushed through my last bits of homework, commenting on my nearly-identical hair to hers. She dropped me off at school, me waving goodbye, and she smiling and waving back. I felt light and happy, like a bird, as I ran up the stairs into the school. Boys winked at me, but all they got was ignorance. I stalked towards class on the maroon high heels that I was regretting wearing. I was bound to fall at some point. At that moment, I took a misstep and sprawled on the ground. The good thing was that I fell gracefully, on my hip. The bad thing was that everyone was staring at me... And that I fell right in front of Olivia.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? The little broken-hearted, broken-up with, little slut. Don't worry hon, Bryce was bound to break up with you sometime. Just that I didn't think it would be him who broke up with you." She cackled evilly. I retorted,"You little..." I stopped in my tracks. There was something wrong here. "How did you know Bryce broke up with me? I only told one person that it was officially over." I was puzzled the only person I had told had been Kelly, and she had been sworn to secrecy... Behind Olivia, amongst her brain-washed minions, was Kelly. Kelly. My best friend. My best friend. Who was apparently not my best friend.
"No!" I let out a strangled gasp, my vision blurring, tears streaming down my cheeks.
"How could you!" This time it wasn't me. Amelia stepped up beside me. "How could you betray your best friend? After all she had done for you?" Amelia was raging. She grabbed my arm, dragging me off,"Let's get away from this...this filth!" All I heard in my shocked state was "Wait! Vivian! Amelia! Wait! But I'm your best friend!" Amelia snarled back,"You never were my best friend."
I followed her out of the school, frozen, delirious, and continuously muttering,"She betrayed me. She betrayed me." Tears were streaming down my face in rivulets. Amelia too me to get in her car and write down my address. I spoke it mutely.
She drove me home silently, me still speechless with fresh tears dribbling off my chin. It definitely wasn't my best day. I said quietly,"Thanks for driving me." She smiled,"No problem." I sighed,"I can't take this anymore. In probably going to move somewhere else. Dad did say that he wanted to move to California." "Really?" Amelia sounded surprised. "Because my parents wanted to move there too!" We squealed in unison, then laughed at our silliness. We agreed to check with our parents, then get back to each other.
-----------Time Lapse------------
"Perfect! We were planning to move to California anyway! I'll check with Amelia's parents if they would like to transfer her into a new school with you!" Mum exclaimed excitedly. Dad was at work, and after understanding everything, she apologized for everything, then called Dad to tell him that it was ok to move to California. I grinned,"I'll go call Amelia now. ""Oh my gosh! Both our parents did yes! This is awesome! We'll never have to see Olivia's stupid face ever again!" I crowed into the phone. She laughed,"I'm glad too. Um... I thought you might want to know why I started hating Kelly at some point in time. She retorted in the car that you were probably just pretending to be late so that you could get all the attention. Alice had stayed silent, but told me later that she disagreed. I was furious at Kelly, but I knew that if you knew, it would have broken your heart." We were silent for a few moments. "Thanks. I'll see you in two months at California High!" I replied cheerfully before hanging up. We were leaving by private jet next week, giving us just enough time to pack up. I smiled, my life was just beginning.
