I rushed into the dressing room that I had used earlier today. I rummaged through the bag, desperately trying to find my phone. Then it hit me. It was in my other bag. Downstairs. I checked the clock. I was already twenty minutes late! I hurried down the steps to the dining table. My pouch was there. I plunged my hand in and griped around. When this was to no avail, I turned the bag inside out, but only a few specks of dust drifted out slowly. I groaned and slumped down on a chair. Where could that stupid phone be?! Might as well get to prom now. One hour late. Urgh. Why does this keep happening to me? I trudged to my Porsche and stepped inside the car. A vibration caught my eye. I wanted to smack myself in the face. Of course, I had dropped my phone in the car before coming here. "Great.... How perfect," I muttered under my breath.
I hit the gas and shot off down the roads. It was raining so I couldn't leave the roof open. It was getting really stuffy, and I just hoped that I would get to the ballroom soon. I hurried out of the car after jamming it in a lot between two humongous Volvos. I rushed up the stairs that were covered with a red carpet. The men standing at the front required my name to get in.
"Erm... Vivian Ross." I mumbled. They goggled at me, recognizing my name. They immediately let me in, as I ignored their hushed whispers. Bursting through the front doors, I panted like I had run a marathon. Everyone stared at me as I shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot."Vivi!" Bryce shouted as he neared me."You look awesome!" I blushed,"Thanks." I scanned the room for my friends. I spotted Kelly's bright blue dress and I ran as fast as possible towards them.
I came to a stop and halted in front of them. Something was wrong.Amelia was glaring at Kelly, her fist clenched. Alice was standing to one side, her arms crossed over her chest, her eyes staring daggers at Kelly. Kelly was clutching her bloody nose with one hand, her other hand pointing accusingly at Amelia. I intervened immediately,"Woah! Ames! What's gotten into you! What happened?" Amelia fumed,"Kelly.... Uh! Never mind!" With that she stalked off, Alice right beside her, after shooting one last reproachful glare at Kelly. I furrowed my eyebrows. This wasn't like Amelia at all! She was usually really nice! Alice too! In fact, she was best friends with Kelly. Apparently not anymore. I sighed. And right after I get a new family, it falls apart almost immediately. I placed a hand on Kelly's arm. "We should probably clean you up," I smiled. Kelly grinned. A few drops of blood had stained the neckline of her dress. I led her to the bathroom where we laughed hysterically at the spots on her dress. After her dress was as clean as possible, we ambled to the ballroom, chatting merrily.
We met Olivia and her gang. She was wearing an elaborately decorated red gown, with a long trail of cloth laying down behind her. Amongst her 'followers', was Alicia. She was wearing a black dress that made me cringe. The neckline plunged deep, revealing much of Alicia's cleavage. It opened wide at the stomach, revealing a wide stretch of skin. It rejoined at her waist, flowing down in a miniskirt, so short she might as well not have been wearing anything. Amelia and Alice walked up to my right, obviously avoiding Kelly. I resisted the urge to shake my head. What was going on? They were perfectly fine when we were at Ames' house? Kelly nodded stiffly at Amelia and Alice, acknowledging their presence, while Amelia simply turned away, while Alice pursed her lips and nodded in return. I had a feeling our gatherings were going to be extremely awkward from now on. I decided to let it rest, we had bigger problems to deal with.
"Well, isn't it famous-spoilt-rich-stuck-up-obnoxious-girl," Olivia spat, earning giggles and sneers from her gang. I stepped up front. "Oh, sorry Olivia. Are you talking about yourself?" I batted my eyelashes innocently. This earned a laugh from Alice and a choke that sounded like suppressed laughter from Kelly. Even Amelia couldn't hide her snigger.
Olivia's face twisted into an angry sort of grimace. "You just wait Ross, you just wait," she threatened. Amelia retorted,"Oh, are we onto surnames now? Well then, back off, Slut." "Olivia Cheater Slut. Not a bad name," Alice mused in pretend thoughtfulness. I doubled over in laughter, as did Amelia. We shared a quick smile as I remembered how I loved to spend time with her. Her smile quickly faded as she caught sight of Kelly. She returned to her original spiteful self. I groaned mentally.
Olivia spat at us and tilted her head high, marching off with her crowd of adoring followers. I rolled my eyes,"What a coward!" Kelly grinned,"I suppose she should have stood up for herself. " Amelia and Alice had disappeared from sight completely. I sighed. Kelly reassured me,"Hey, don't worry. We can still have fun without them!" I smiled at her.
The rest of the night was spent joking and watching the boys fool around. I suppose Jonathan and Daniel could be charming and friendly if they wanted. Jonathan apologized, as did Daniel. I was so taken back that I was sure I looked like a deer caught in headlights. Kelly was having fits of laughter as she saw my expression. The last I remembered was falling straight into Bryce's arms, where I laughed for the rest of the night. Sure, I had loads of fun with the boys and Kelly. But I felt something missing. Amelia was always my best friend and we had grown extremely close even though it had only been a day. I despaired for our friendship.
"Hello? Anybody there? Earth to Vivian!!" Daniel shouted in my face. I was so startled that I knocked my glass of punch onto Jonathan's lap. His face was enough to get us all into spasms of laughter.
Unfortunately, all good things had to end. We said our goodbyes and promised each other that we would see each other again tomorrow night.
On the road home, I couldn't help but smile at the happy memories of this unforgettable night.
