"Oh my God!" Tori screeched, "Are you serious? You are going to tutor the Greek god?!"
"Jesus Tori! Only dogs can hear you now. Calm down," I hissed knowing that we were almost at my house, and trust me, having Tori using notes only Mariah Carey can reach had made my walk home a living hell.
She scoffed, "Right, even you have to admit that the boy is hot. So enjoy it girl!"
"Uh-huh. Aren't you forgetting a tiny little problem called the Hart boys. They are going to flip when they find out about his reputation, and I can't afford that to happen or I have to kiss Columbia goodbye," I began to feel defeated.
"And for how long are you going to be tutoring him? I mean, if it's only for a couple of weeks I'm sure we can find ways to cover you up."
"You would do that for me?" Aw, this is why I love my friends.
"You even have to ask? I'm sure Mason and Brad can help if we ask them to...and when you finally bang him I'm sure we can cover for you for the night."
And this is why I think they belong to a mental institution. She even wiggled her eyebrows at me. I bit my lip not letting her know that I was suppressing a smile.
"Okay...that didn't make you sound perverted at all," I replied deadpanned, my words dripping with sarcasm.
"Tori! You should be helping me solve this not thinking ways of 'banging cover-ups.'"
"Okay, PMS much? I would suggest tutoring him at my place, but that would only make your brothers suspicious of why you're always at my place -when we all know that you are a couch potato and rather be here eating your worth in food and watching Netflix," she said with a lost look. I knew that look, I feared that look. I know she's cooking up something in that dirty mind of hers.
I sighed. "Yeah, that crosses out tutoring at the library also." You are probably thinking, why is she freaking out? She has tutored before...yeah, but my brothers had one condition, they had to know the person I was tutoring.
When we got to my house we quickly went to my room. I threw myself backwards in the bed and released a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Is the house usually this empty at this time of day?" Tori looked at herself in the mirror fixing her eye liner. She was so different from me with her bright long red hair that curled at the bottom, lightly tanned skin, heart-shaped face with delicate features, big brown eyes and a hint of Latin look that added that spike to her personality. My friend is hot, unlike me. Don't get me wrong I don't hate my body, but I wished there was something special about me that wouldn't make me your average blond-hair, blue-eyed girl, who could not be anymore dull or would fade into the crowd.
Tori went to one of my bean bag chairs and slumped on it.
"Yeah, Brody is the first to come home after his shift down at the grocery store," I answered not very sure of what she's getting at.
"And what time is that?" she asked slowly like I was meant to understand whatever she's blabbering about.
"When he comes home?" she nodded. "At around five, why?" Why do I have the feeling that I'm not going to like what she's thinking.
"Why don't you tutor him here? He only has to leave before Brody gets here." She's clearly insane if she thinks I'm not going to risk getting caught. I guess my face showed what I was thinking because she started to laugh.
"Chill girl, you're going to kill the only neuron that you have. Seriously, who thinks that slow?" she chuckled. After sighing, she came up and lay next to me.
"Well two choices, either tutor Mr. Hotness, or kiss that recommendation letter goodbye," she pointed out looking at the ceiling.
"Ugh, I hate it when you make sense." I had no other choice; I had to sneak him in and out.
Next day...
After waking up early today, thanks to my alarm, I pulled out some skinny jeans, a hot pink shirt with black stripes, and my high top converse. My hair was naturally straight with a few curves that reached just an inch below my shoulders. I don't do makeup, so I considered myself ready. I went downstairs with a knot in my stomach, Calm down! I scowled myself, you haven't done anything bad...yet.
I mentally groaned, if you keep it up it won't last a minute. I stop before reaching the kitchen, took a deep breath to calm myself and entered.
My brothers were all eating their 'make it yourself' breakfast. "Morning" Great, sound anymore tight and they are going to think you are constipated.
"Morning," Nate and Jake replied roughly while the other two grunted. Morning people, aren't they? Well, at least they didn't noticed how stiff I was.
"So Em-" Matt startled me and I dropped my empty bowl on the counter and did my karate pose. Thank God it's plastic. I quickly recovered and dropped my hands down. "Yes?" I replied nervously in a high pinched voice.
"What crawled up your ass?" Matt asked looking at me curiously.
"Nothing. I'm fine. You startled me that's all," I said in one breath. Jake squinted his eyes at me. Oh no. He's like a human lie detector. "Whatever you're up to, I'm sure I'm not gonna like it," he kept eating his cereal standing up, and never breaking eye contact.
"I don't know what you are talking about -well you look at that. I'm running late again. I have to go, Bye!" Get out, get out, get out!
I was mentally slapping myself on my way to the door. Why do I have to be such a wimp? Now wonder you are a nerd. I kept scowling at myself. Suddenly, I felt someone grab my wrist. Man, I looked at the door and I was three steps away to get out. Three steps.
"Emily, you know that whatever's going on you can tell me -us. Did someone bully you yesterday?" Nate sounded genuine worried. I look at my brother. All my brothers have the same blue eyes as me, except him. He had mom's eyes. When I was younger, I envied that. He is tall, broad, and handsome like the rest of my brothers. I've always believed that I should've been born a boy to look as good as them. And even though Nate was similar to the rest he had these soft features that made me trust him the most.
"I know Nate, but I'm not being bullied or anything. I'm old enough to handle what I've got in my hands so please don't worry. I'll be fine." I hated to lie to my brothers, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him, right?
When I got to school, I met up with my friends walking towards the building when we heard a commotion near the parking lot. I didn't want to go, but Mason was tugging my hand like a little kid wanting to get his favorite toy. I reluctantly dragged myself after him because he was too eager to get there fast. Brad also caught up to him leaving me and Tory and me behind.
"You stay away from my girl!" someone shouted. I heard what seemed like a body crashing against a car.
"Dude, she's the one who can't stay away from me," I know that voice. When I came as close as I could get without being squished by the amount of people that surrounded them.
Drake Hunter
From what I could see, he already had a bruised cheek and a cut on his top lip. Then, as quick as a blink, he tackled the other guy grabbing him by his legs and they both went down. Drake quickly straddled him and began punching him on the face. The other guy could not do anything more that to try to cover his face.
"Hey!" someone shouted from the crowd. When everyone saw that it was one of the teachers, they all scattered running towards every direction.
Tori tugged my arm, urging me to move but I couldn't. I kept staring at him having the feeling of knowing him. I shook my head and scoffed internally at my absurdity.
Finally, the teacher and the school guard reached them and pulled them apart. Drake looked amused? What the hell's wrong with him? He most certainly disfigured that guy's face forever and he looked like he enjoyed it. When the teacher pulled him up, Drake's gaze met mine and he smirked at me. Suddenly, a chill went from my lower back to my neck.
He's the guy for whom I'm lying to my brother's for?
Great.
