"What the hell's this?"
Oh shit.
My body went to shut mode along with the person's shouting. Suddenly, it felt like my blood just froze. I got caught, and on the first day! Jeez, I'm like the worst hider ever. I was so embedded in my pathetic attempts to avoid a panic attack that I almost missed the far away voices. Almost.
I was finally able to move my neck.
"Hey man" Drake greeted while doing the weird shake and hug thing most boys seem to do. Mason greeted him a little amused now and like they were all friends. He must have seen my shocked expression because I swear I saw him stifle his laugh. He knew how much I disliked him and heard me rant about him all the time, and he didn't mention anything? He had a lot of explaining to do.
"You two know each other?" I asked pointing frantically between them.
"Yeah, we take a couple of classes together," Mason shrugged like it wasn't a big thing. "And Em, next time you should be more careful with your PDA, what if it was one of your brothers?" He bent and picked up some grocery bags. By now, I must look like a freaking tomato.
"Okay, well. I'm out," Drake said and got closer to me to whisper, "see you tomorrow, nerd." Drake walked down the few front stairs. He also greeted Brad and gave a small nod towards Tori, who looked like a Chihuahua on crack. Now I have to prepare myself for an excruciating hour of 'Oh my God's' and 'hot ass'.
I was so engaged in Drake's tutoring freak out that I forgot that today was movie night at my place. You know, we weren't at the bottom of the high school chain but we weren't at the top either, unlike Drake. We rarely got invited to any parties, at all.
"Oh my God! What were you to doing? Exploring dangerous territory aren't we?" Tori was literary jumping like a maniac next to Brad.
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever Tori, did you get the movies?"
"Oh, stop changing the subject from Mr. Hot piece of ass." And there it is. We already completed the quota of 'Oh my God's' and 'hot ass' in less than a minute.
"Hey! I'm right here." Brad complained in a 'duh' tone pointing to himself.
"Aw, I know sweetie. You know you have the hottest piece of ass," she said winking at him and grabbing his ass.
"Okay, let's go inside before I tear my eyes out." Mason made a gagging sound and quickly went inside. I rolled my eyes, gave an exasperated sigh, and went after him. Watching those two's PDA wasn't something anyone wanted to see.
We were setting the food at the coffee table after clearing it up when I heard the door and saw Brody entering the living room.
"Hey losers," he greeted taking off his jacket. Brody was the closest to my friends because he was the last one to leave high school two years ago. "What are we watching?" He jumped from behind the sofa and landed next to me.
"Hey!" I complained with a mouthful after he took the slice of pizza I was eating. "There are like five boxes three feet away, pig."
"It wouldn't taste the same, bun butt."
"Don't start with me, Daddy Mack," I said narrowing my eyes at him. He hated every time I called him that. Apparently he went through a rapper-phase when he was eleven making everyone call him Daddy Mack. He is so embarrassed now that you wouldn't hear the end of it if you called him that. But I had it up my sleeve, just in case he called me bun butt, but that's a whole other story...oh no, I won't go there!
He narrowed his eyes and handed the slice back. "I thought so." I smirked and took a huge bite of it.
"So lady like." He had a disgusted look and I couldn't help myself. I opened my mouth and stuck my tongue out, displaying the chewed bite to him.
He turned his face from me and went to grab another slice. This time he sat on the floor not risking seeing my 'so lady like' manners again.
"So, what do you guys want to watch? I brought Pitch Perfect and Zombieland," Mason said looking at the DVD's while standing in front of the DVD player.
"Pitch Perfect!" Tori called before anyone else which, with us, was the rule. The one who brings the DVD's would always name the movies and the first to call the movie that's the one we end up watching.
"Great, 'cause I can't stand watching another disgusting thing tonight." Brody gave me a pointed look.
Mason scoffed. "Well, you should've been here earlier when -"
"Brad farted!" Tori quickly interrupted giving an exasperated-murdering -couldn't decide which- look to Mason. I visibly relaxed and gave a silent sigh. I'm so going to make him pay later. He was clearly going to mention Drake being here.
"But I didn't -Hey! You know that's tonight's second offence," Brad said frowning at Tori and rubbing his left side. Tori elbowed him too before he could say anything. I couldn't help it but laugh a little. She was weird like ninety percent of the time but she sure knew how to watch my back.
"I'll reward you later baby," Tori said between her teeth with a fake sweet smile.
"You better," he said and resumed his eating while Mason looked at me with a worried expression. I gave him my 'you're dead' look.
"Great! Pitch Perfect it is," Mason said nervously putting the movie.
I know Brody wasn't stupid. He knew something was going on the way he was looking at our weird exchange, but somehow he decided to drop any questions he had and kept eating.

The movie had finished a long time ago and we were laughing our asses off on the floor. Well, all except Mason, who did not find the situation amusing, at all.
Let me fill you in. Well not long ago Mason decided to play a prank on Tori by posting a very suggestive message on her facebook wall and changed the password. Apparently he also included Tori's phone number and she couldn't stop receiving horny guys' calls at every hour. So why was she laughing you might ask. Well, her payback included superglue and Mason's bedside lotion, so I leave that up to you to guess what happened next.
"Hey! It wasn't you who had to explain the whole situation to the ER doctor!" he pouted while crossing his arms.
That only made us laugh harder.
"Please...please...no more." I reached the laugh level where you laugh but no sound comes out of your mouth. My stomach was hurting pretty bad. I was afraid to recreate a specific part of the movie.
By now, all my brothers were home. They decided to stay and chill for once during a Friday night. We were all scattered around the coffee table that was filled with candy wrap and empty soda cans.
After sobering up, everyone just lay there rubbing their stomachs, seems like I wasn't alone. "Hey anybody want coffee?" Nate asked standing up while stretching. I rolled my eyes at Tori who was ogling at him not so subtlety. Turns everyone wanted coffee so I followed Nate to help him prepare it.
When I went back to the room with the coffee tray, all the whispering stopped, which was strange, but decided to let it go...for now.
"So Emily, what are you doing tomorrow?" Matty asked with that nonchalant tone of his.
"Um...I don't know, clean the house with you all I guess." I shrugged and sat on the floor next to Mason. "Why?"
"No reason. We just want to take you shopping that's all." Matty took a sip of his coffee and looked around. Why do I have the feeling that this was all staged?
"You want to take me shopping? May I ask why?"
"Well, we thought that you wanted to select your own birthday gift since we never have a clue of what to get you," Jake added.
"Really? Sure, I would love that." I knew they were hiding something from me, but because I was going to get presents from them I didn't mind.
"Emily." Nate came back from the kitchen holding a book; I immediately recognize it. My eyes were about to come out of their sockets. "Who's Drake?"
