"He's not going to reject you, he's whipped. Plus he really wants to go to that festival" you said to your friend, rolling your eyes, not that y/f/n was looking, she was too busy looking around for her boyfriend.

It was valentine's day and she was going to surprise him with tickets to a festival he really wanted to go to, and throughout the whole school day she wouldn't shut up about being rejected. It made you wonder why people bothered to try if they were just going to back out or spend the whole time beforehand pissing themselves. "Ah, there he is! He's coming over! Right, do I look okay?!" y/f/n asked, frantically smoothing down her skirt.

"You look fine, now just get on with it" you said, huffing.

y/f/n ran up to her boyfriend and gave him a really tight hug, before pulling away and giving him this speech about how much she loved him and how they worked well together and bla bla bla

Losing interest, you turned around and opened your locker, frowning when a note fell out of it. You bent down and picked up the note, which had your name scribbled on it. You opened up the note and it said 'Text me ;)' with a number written underneath.

You frowned and shoved the note in your pocket, turning back around to see y/f/n making out with her boyfriend.

Well she clearly didn't get rejected so I guess I can just...

You slipped away from them and to the girls toilets, walking straight to the counters with the sinks on before pulling out the note again. You weren't going to text it, but curiosity got the better of you.

'Who is this?'

'You'll find out. Just answer me this - will you be my valentine?' The person replied pretty quickly, which made you imagine that they had been anxiously waiting for you to text them.

'How can I answer if I don't know who you are?'

'You can easily find out who I am. Come to the roof' You frowned, a million thoughts running through your head, ranging from what if it's a murderer!? to what if they're a really disgusting person?

'Why should I do that?! You could be a murderer for all I know!'

'Because the curiosity will eat you up alive, I know you won't be able to stop thinking about it if you don't come'

Whoever this person was, they must have known you quite well to know that the curiosity would get to you.

'I hate you and I don't even know who you are.' You replied, starting to make your way to the roof.

When you were at the bottom of the stairs, you were filled with anticipation. Somebody actually liked you and wanted you to be their valentine, and all you had to do was open the doors and see who it was.

You walked up the stairs and took a breath before opening them, walking out onto the roof to see - nobody.

You frowned, pulling out your phone.

'Where are you?' You texted, wondering forward onto the roof a bit as you waited for a reply, however it never came.

You felt tears prick your eyes as you turned around.

You should've known it was a joke.

You opened the door to go back inside when you bashed into someone and stumbled backwards, however the person grabbed your hands and pulled you into their chest to keep you still.

You looked up to see Calum Hood, your typical popular boy. He let you go and chuckled, before saying "Honestly I was not expecting that"

"Well you asked me to meet you on the roof, so you should've been" you said in a matter-of-fact tone.

"No... that was you" he said, giving you a weird look.

"What?" you asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You left a note in my locker telling me to meet you on the roof..." Calum said, opening the note and showing it to you. "That's not my handwriting..." you trailed off, squinting at it before you recognised it. "y/f/n"

"Who?"

"She wrote the note. But who was texting me then?" you asked

"I'm sorry?" Calum questioned. You pulled out your phone and handed it to him, open on the texts.

Calum suddenly felt his back pocket and sighed. "Damn, Michael has my phone! You don't think they're trying to set us up. do you?" Calum asked frowning.

"You say that like it's such a bad thing. Am I really that repulsive?" You asked. Calum's eyes widened "No! You're beautiful! I mean urm... well you are but I-"

"You're not too bad yourself" you said, smirking at Calum, who smiled sheepishly.

"I might as well ask, as we were both expecting dates - y/n, will you be my valentine?"

"Honestly I was not expecting that" you said, repeating his words from earlier. Calum groaned and pushed you slightly, making you chuckle, before you reached up and pecked his lips.

"Yes"
