Savannah's POV

Mackenzie is going on a date with Griffin? Since when did that happen?

I was freaking out inside. I just couldn't believe that Griffin had to play with my best friend. I really thought he changed, but I guess he played me too.

I rolled off my comfortable bed and dialed her number on my cell phone. It took three rings, but she finally picked up.

"Hello? You know, I was in the middle of my beauty sleep, Savannah."

"When were you going to tell me about your date with Griffin?" I snapped, not caring about her beauty sleep, whatsoever.

"Oh, yeah. I finally asked him out, when you were in the hospital. I have been in love with him, forever!" she gushed and began to giggle. I froze, when she mentioned the hospital. I touched my scar on my right arm and sighed. I will never forget the day of the fire.

I snapped out of my thoughts and continued to interrogate my dear friend.

"What about Caleb?"

"We're just friends, nothing more."

"Well, I better let you sleep. Have fun tomorrow!" I quickly hung up and plopped on my bed. I was so frustrated. Why did he have to go after her? No, I'm not jealous. I just don't want her to get hurt.

I slowly drifted off to sleep, as I dreamt of eating sugar angels and being chased by a porcupine.

My eyes fluttered opened, as the sun shone bright in my eyes. I dreamily looked at my alarm clock. It was eleven o'clock. Hold on, what? I perked up and my eyes widened in terror. "Shoot! I was supposed to cover for Griffin!" I shouted, in frustration.

I quickly got up and brushed my teeth. I got ready and ended up wearing a purple and black dress with black flats. I didn't even bother with make up, who am I going to impress? Plus, I'm not really a fan of it.

I rushed downstairs and Megan greeted me. "Sweetie, where are you off to?" she asked, looking concerned." I smiled at her, as I grabbed my purse. "I have to go to work and I'm going to be late," Megan's eyes widened in shock, when I mentioned the word, "job." I grabbed my dark blue wool coat and put it on. "I'll explain later, Megan. I better go!"

I rushed out of the door and was hit by the sudden outburst of the wind. Maybe if I run, I can warm up.

I took off running for two or three miles and reached the bakery, at last.

I opened the door and was welcomed by the sweet aromas of the bakery. I continued to pant and felt an arm around me. I almost shrieked, but realized it was only Mrs. Clarke. She smiled at me with a plate of eggs in her hand. Why does she have eggs? This is a bakery, right?

"Griffin told me you were going to cover for him, so I made some breakfast for you." she explained and handed me a plate of scrambled eggs. I quickly took them and sat in a booth, nearby. "I'm sorry I let you down. I didn't mean to come late and Griffin counted on me!"

I chewed a piece of egg, as Mrs. Clarke watched me, which was not creepy at all. "It's fine, darling. He decided to not go on his little date."  I narrowed my eyes at her and scanned her face to see if she was joking. It wasn't normal for Griffin to cancel a date.

I finally realized she was telling the truth. "Where is he, then?" I curiously asked. She frowned at me and pointed where he was. "He's flirting with a girl." she sighed and looked unhappy. I looked where she pointed and saw him laughing with a giggly and perky red-headed girl. There's the playboy we all know and love.

I began to laugh. "You don't approve of him, do you?" I asked, curiosity taking the best of me. She giggled with me. "Not at all, pumpkin. However, his father was quite the player so I guess he had to inherit that."

I finished up my plate of delicious, salty scrambled eggs and thanked Mrs. Clarke. I finally made my way to Griffin and his red-headed beauty.

The red-headed scowled at me, probably for interrupting their conversation. I smiled innocently at her, but she just continued to glare. He's just a boy! What's your problem, girl!

Griffin just smiled at me, when he noticed my presence. I gave him a quick wave. "I'm really sorry you had to cancel your date." I emphasized the word "date", which caused the red-headed girl to storm off.

Griffin continued to smile at me, as if we were friends. "It's fine. I shouldn't attach myself to one person. There's too many girls and only one Griffin to go around." Ugh, that just disgusts me. He has too much of an ego, if you ask me.

My eyes widened in curiosity. "What about Kenzie?" He waved his hand off. "Eh, I don't really have any feelings for her. She could find someone else." I gasped at him for saying this. "She's your friend too! You played with her emotions. How dare you!" He rolled his eyes at me, as if this conversation wasn't important. "I'm the player and I break hearts. What else do you expect me to do?"

I sighed at him. I really thought he was better than this, but I thought wrong. "I'm just very disappointed in you, Griffin Alexander Clarke. I thought you were different and had a heart." I began to turn away to bake some cupcakes, but he held my wrist firmly.

"I am different and I do have a heart."

"Yeah, right."

"I do. It's just hard to explain."

"Whatever. Just find some other girl to flirt with and leave my friend alone!"

I pulled my hand away from his grasp and stormed out of the bakery. There was no way I could go to work today.

I sulked around and ended up in front of a frozen yogurt shop. I looked at the window and my stomach growled. Maybe, I should get some. Frozen yogurt is a girl's best friend.

I walked into the brightly colored shop. Before I could focus on anything, someone shouted. "Savannah!"

Author's Note: Left you on a cliffhanger! Don't you love those? Just kidding, I don't love cliffhangers.

Questions:
1. Do you think this is too cliché?
2. Is Savannah being overprotective of her friend?
3. Who is your favorite character, so far?
