Savannah's POV

Griffin and I stepped closer to the man, his father. The man turned around, wearing a warm smile, and settled his eyes on me. I squirmed under his examination and hoped he would not recognize me.

"I have heard so much about you, Miss Winters," the old man said politely.

I took out my hand and shook his. "I wish I could say the same, Mr. Clarke."

He gave me a small smile, as his wife placed her arms around her husband. "Please, call me Theodore. You are like family to me."

Shoot, my cover is blown! I tried to stay calm, but I was freaking out on the inside and internally screaming.

I turned towards Griffin, who looked downright confused. I guess he doesn't know my secret nor my parents. I guess that is a good thing...

Griffin raised an eyebrow at his father. "Do you know her? You have never met her, as far as I know."

Theodore chuckled at his son and ruffled his hair. "Son, I do know her and her family. You would too, if you have kept up with the news and put two and two together."

"I'm not dumb, dad," Griffin mumbled under his breath.

Griffin may have not spoke loud enough for his dad, but I heard him. I sort of felt sorry for him. I guess we do have a lot in common: we both want to be loved by our parents.

Theodore stared at me for a whole minute, examining my whole appearance. Then, he looked at his own son and shook his head in a disapprovingly matter. Suddenly, a cellphone went off and he took his phone out of his jacket pocket.

"I have to take this. Chloe, I can't wait for this piquant supper, that you have been preparing," Theodore said in a polite manner.

With those words, Theodore and Chloe left the entrance hall. Chloe went to the kitchen to prepare a scrumptious dinner, while Theodore went to some unknown location to answer his phone.

I sighed and looked at an expressionless Griffin. "Something wrong, Griff?"

He looked at me with sad, blue eyes. "Sometimes, I wish my dad would stop thinking of me as a disappointment."

"Are you sure?" I asked with curiosity.

"Yes, Savvy. He expects me to be like him," Griffin said sadly, "but it's hard. I try my best to please him and I always end up being a huge disappointment."

Griffin put his hands up in frustration and then, he shook his head sadly. I slowly walked towards him and wrapped my arms around his waist. He looked like he needed some comfort, which he probably never had.

All of a sudden, Griffin turned around to face me and hugged me back. This greatly surprised me, but I guess it shouldn't. I mean we are acquaintances and not enemies.

I stopped thinking and focused on the warm hug. He was just so huggable and I felt butterflies in my stomach. Maybe, we both need each other, without even realizing it.

The silence was quickly interrupted, as I heard soft sobs coming from Griffin. Usually, I would make fun of him and call him a baby, but I didn't. He needed to release his feelings on someone and if I'm that person, then I guess I am fine with it.

"I know how you feel, Griffin," I responded softly.

"I don't think you do, Savvy," he replied in a muffled voice.

"Yes, I do. I know you are the Vice President's son." I said, as I pulled away from him.

Griffin's eyes widened at me. "How did you know? It's supposed to be a secret."

"My parents work with your dad," I explained.

Griffin furrowed his eyebrows at me, as he tried to analyze my words. "What is their position?" he finally asked.

"I would tell you, but I think you should watch the news more often," I replied with a smirk.

Griffin sighed at me and placed an arm around my shoulders. "I would, but the news is boring."

I rolled my eyes at him, as we headed to the kitchen to eat dinner.

I nibbled on some cheesy lasagna, as everyone watched me. I felt like a wild animal with everyone watching me. The atmosphere was already awkward and I despise silence.

"So, how are you?" I nervously asked to no one in general.

Theodore wiped his mouth with a fancy napkin, before answering my question. "I'm wonderful, Savannah. And you?"

I took a sip out of some sparkling water and stared at the table. It was a large wooden table with a red and gold table cloth. There was lasagna, sparkling water, garlic bread, fried asparagus, and chocolate cheesecake.

"I'm doing just fine," I said with a smile.

After that brief conversation, the two adults began to converse with each other about "grown-up things".

I finished up my last bite of lasagna and looked at Griffin. He was touching the fried asparagus, on his plate, with a fork and was awfully quiet. I coughed to gain his attention and he looked at me with wide eyes.

"Are you okay?" I whispered to him.

"I guess so," he said quietly.

I put my hand on his shoulder and massaged it lightly. "It's okay, Griffin. You'll be alright."

After dinner was finished, I decided to help Mrs. Clarke with the dishes. Unfortunately, she abandoned me to run an important errand.

I rinsed a ceramic white plate, that was rimmed with gold, when I heard shouting. I immediately stopped what I was doing and crept closer to the noise, which was coming from the living room. I hid behind a large chair and took a peek.

"She is not my girlfriend, father! Why don't you believe me?" Griffin angrily shouted.

"I know you, Alexander. I don't want any son of mine to be a player and break girls' hearts!" Theodore responded, as he paced the room with anger.

"For the last frigging time, my name is not Alexander!"

"It is to me. What kind of lame name is Griffin, huh? I don't want my son named after some legendary, mythical creature!" Theodore shouted angrily.

"Then, why did you name me Griffin?" Griffin snapped.

"Your mother chose that atrocious name," Theodore explained.

"Well, that is your problem. I don't care about you and I never will," Griffin angrily responded. He ended up storming out of the living room and to his bedroom.

Mr. Clarke sighed at his son and sat down on the couch. He opened up a newspaper and took a sip of coffee from his mug. I guess he doesn't care about his son and that Griffin was right.

I ran through the living room, after Griffin, and into his bedroom. I burst opened the door and saw Griffin holding a razor.
