Yay, this is the second update!!
It was six days into their trip. Mark and Meredith spent more time together, leaving Derek jealous. His sister Amelia and Lizzy were able to pick up on it.
"Derek? Do you like Mer?" Liz asked her naive little brother.
"What? Ew! No...Err....um...no" he finally was able to let out.
"Derek and Meredith sitting on a tree K I S S..." Amelia began to sing, but Liz cut her off.
"Amy it's actually, Mark and Meredith sitting on a tree, while Derek is J E A L O U S" Amelia and Liz both started laughing uncontrollably.
"I hate you guys" he mumbled as he left to go out side, only to find Mark swinging Meredith on the swings.
His father had built them a small play ground near the log cabin, when Derek was just two years old. Now since all the children had grown up, they mostly used the playground as a hang out place.
"Hey Derek" Mark said, clearly being happy.
"Hi Derek," Meredith said as she jumped off the swings and went to the monkey bars.
"Betchya I'm faster than you" she said singy-songily as she grabbed a bar.
Derek was about to reply, but realized she was talking to Mark. Mark quickly said, "in your dreams Grey" as he rushed off and followed Meredith. For the first time in a while, Derek felt alone. He didn't have Preston or Addison to talk to. Mark, his best friend was hanging out with Meredith. His sisters were making fun of him. He had no one.
"Hey let's have a race" Derek suddenly suggested, feeling the need to stop Mark and Meredith's game.
"That's a great idea" Meredith giggled as she jumped off the bars.
Mark gave him a look, what are you doing? She's mine, he seemed to say.
Meredith, Mark and Derek got ready for their race. They were going to go to the far end of the woods, and come back. First one to touch the slide, won.
"Ready Set Go!" Mark shouted as the three 8th graders went into action. As they were running, Meredith tripped on a rock that was covered with wet miss. This was unnoticed by Mark who kept sprinting, but Derek luckily witnessed it.
"Hey you need help?" He said as he offered his hand.
"Kinda!" She said, as she grabbed his hands. "Ow" she winced, as she stood up. Derek instinctively wrapped his arms around her and helped her to the stairs of their cabin. While Derek held onto her, he breathed in a flowery aroma.
"Thanks" she said, as Derek gently placed her on the steps.
"Anytime" Derek enthusiastically replied.
"I guess your my knight in shining...whatever" she half giggled and half mumbled.
"Yeah I guess" He said. Derek looked into Meredith's eyes, green met blue. Meredith and Derek got lost in each other's presence, and they didn't seem to notice Mark staring at them, obviously jealous. Meredith couldn't believe she was looking into her enemies' ocean blue eyes. Derek couldn't believe that he had such an emotional connection to her, at just the young age of 14.
"Uhum" Mark cleared his throat, breaking the weird staring between his friends. Meredith clearly ashamed said she wanted to talk to Kathleen, so she went inside.
"Derek, I didn't know you "liked" her "liked" her" Mark said. "I thought you just had a small crush"
"I thought so too" Derek responded.
"What are we going do?"
"I dunno"
"How about we both don't "like like" her and just "like her"" Mark suggested.
"That's a lot of likes"
"What I mean is that we should just be friends with her, and ignore our feelings for her"
"That's seems alright" Derek said, finally relieved that he had his best friend back.
Hoped you guys liked it!
Should I do a part 3 of spring break or a part when there all grown up? Comment👇🏼
