CHAPTER 17

When we were out of earshot, I said;

“I don’t think I like Craig Lock very much.”

Dad laughed, “I don’t blame you.” I smiled, I was glad Dad could still actually laugh. We passed a group of bushes but paused because we both heard a strange noise. It was somebody moaning; Dad looked over the bush and gasped.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” He shouted. I could hear fumbling behind the bush, a zipper. I felt a bit scared.

“Dad!” came a voice from behind the bush; it was Chantel. Dad looked really angry.

“Don’t you dare look at me like that!” Chantel shouted. I thought it was rude for her to talk to her father in that way. “I’m not eleven anymore!” she continued. Dad looked taken aback;

“This boy is eleven years younger than you,” he said angrily. Chantel had been fucking somebody behind a bush, and we had caught her. But who had she been banging? No it couldn’t be; James came out from behind the bush.

“Let your daughter live a little, old man,” James snarled.

“Excuse me?” asked Dad, “I haven’t seen her for sixteen years, that’s your entire lifetime!”

“So what? You don’t own her!” James growled. Then he turned on me. “What are you doing here dyke!?” he asked.

“I will not tolerate you calling my daughter that word James!” Dad was very angry now.

“Get over it Bogdan!” James should not have called my Dad by his first name. “It’s the truth, your daughter’s gay, a subhuman.”

Dad took a deep breath; “I am fine with it, it’s not her fault. It’s all your fault she has issues actually,” Dad said calmly, “I believe it is you who told the entire school that Julia is gay? When she trusted you with her secret, you abused it?” James actually blushed. “Now move along little boy, I’m sure Mummy’s wondering where her baby is,” Dad said with a smirk. James’ face contorted with fury; he actually stepped toward Dad with his hand raised.

“Don’t!” screamed Chantel, “he’ll do way worse!” Dad looked confused; I knew he wouldn’t hurt James, he was above that. James put his hand down and walked off; taking Chantel with him. Dad sadly shook his head, “Chantel always was a problem,” he mumbled.

“Thanks for standing up for me,” I said.

“What else am I supposed to do?” he said, “I don’t want him calling you those words.” I smiled and hugged him.

“OK, we really should get home,” Dad said, “I need to make dinner.”

Anton wasn’t home when Dad and I got in. He was probably at Leah’s talking to her parents about Anna. Dad disappeared into the kitchen and I did some vacuuming. I found Anton’s phone under the couch so I put it up on the table. As I did it its ringtone started, the song was ‘Before Your Love’ by Kelly Clarkson. It was ringing- it was a private number though. I didn’t answer it. It was probably just one of Anton’s friends. I finished the vacuuming and Dad came in to tell me that we had ran out of salt so I had to go get some more. Dad also told me to find Anton while I was at it to.

I went to the store, brought the salt and stopped in at the Cave’s on the way back. Leah answered the door and kissed me. I STILL feel excited when she kisses me. I’m not too good at kissing with this cast on though. Leah told me that Anton was here but her parents were having a private conversation with him. I asked her if she could tell him to come home soon and she said she would. Then she kissed me again and I headed off home. I was too busy thinking about the kisses that I almost missed my house.

Dad thanked me for the salt and I told him that Anton was at the Cave’s and he would be home soon. I went up to my room and wondered what Anton and Mr and Mrs Cave were talking about. Anna probably; I still wonder where Anna has gone. Maybe she was sick? Or maybe it’s something much darker.

When Anton returned home I was shocked to see that he had a bruise!

“Why do you have a bruise?” I asked.

“I fell,” he said it quickly and without looking at me so I knew he was lying. I didn’t push it though. He disappeared into his room and I went into mine.

The next day at school; I was sitting next to Leah in Maths class and she brought up a strange subject.

“Julz, how often do you think about sex?” she asked. I didn’t actually know. So I made up an estimate.

“Once a day maybe,” I said confused.

“Should we do it?” Leah asked. Was she actually asking me to have sex in the middle of Maths class?

“Sex?”

“Yes”

“Not now!” I was a bit confused still.

“No, but soon maybe?”

“Uhmmm why not,” I said. Then Mr Johns yelled at us to stop talking.
