CHAPTER 21

It was only ten PM; not too late but late enough for me to sneak out. I quietly opened my window, I didn't want to wake Dad or Anton. I climbed out the window and down the trellis that James had most likely used to get into my room. James. I was going to seriously harm him tonight. If what Tony said was true and he's got Leah. If James harms her though- I'll kill him. Then I'll kill Tony and the rest of these 'Blocks' people. I was furious! Tony had been James' little bitch this whole time! He had probably told James everything that I'd told him. Fuck him! Fuck them both! I was sprinting down the footpath to the Cave's house. I'm no athlete but I could beat Usain Bolt at the speed I was travelling. A couple of weirdos were in my way and I didn't stop to let them move; I bowled right through them. I heard one of them shout but I was hammering on the Cave's front door. I stood breathless; doubled over with my hands on my knees as I waited for someone to answer.

“Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up!” I puffed. I really needed to know if Leah was here or not. After what seemed like a year, Mr Cave answered the door. He told me Leah was in her room so I pushed past him and headed down the hall to Leah's bedroom. It was deserted; but it looked like there had been a fight- stuff had been upturned. My heart almost stopped.

“Leah!” I screamed. I went to her window and jumped out; not really caring about the drop. When I landed I got painful groundshock but I didn't care. I sprinted back up the street to my house. When I got there my whole body ached and my bad arm was excruciating but I could not give up on Leah. No one else was going to rescue her. I was going to be her hero tonight. I saw Anton's car and took the oppurtunity. I quickly got inside and turned on the gas. I can't actually drive but I was about to learn. I tried to reverse but failed at that so I went forwards to turn. I ran over a flower pot and it broke with a clatter. Shit. I was nearly finished my turn when Anton came bursting out of the house. Oh no, go away Anton, not now, please. I saw his mouth form the words,'Julia what the fuck.' I didn't pay him any attention and headed up the driveway. I realised Anton was chasing me so I stepped on the accelerator and escaped the perimeters of our property. I turned hard and sped off up the street. Controlling the car was the least of my concerns. Leah was my only priority; she was the one thing I cared about right now. I needed to save her. I could not let James harm her for my sake. I loved her too much. It was exactly like the 'All About Us' music video when Lena is driving to save Yulia from a rapist. Lena saves Yulia so I hoped that I had the same luck and could save Leah. I struggled a bit on corners but I made it to Hilltop Avenue. I prayed that James had Leah at his house. If not, I would have to think up a Plan B; and fast. I sped past Mum's new house; that was where Tony was. Ugh- how disgusting. A few more metres and I was at James's house. Seeming I didn't have the skills to stop the car, get out, and open the gate; I crashed through the fence that seperated the yard from the outside word. I had helped Mr Groose build that fence many years ago; now I had destroyed it. I slammed the brake on so I didn't collide with anything that could kill me. I couldn't die now. The car stopped as I had commanded. I could get used to this driving thing. I shut off the gas; the car stopped making noise. I felt like a superhero; like Link when he saves Zelda from Ganondorf. But I didn't have a sword. A sword. Damn, I realised that if this 'gang' were really a gang that wanted to be the most powerful- they weren't going to treat me like a cute kitten. I needed something to defend myself with. I remembered that Anton kept a crowbar in his car; that he used to prise open the faulty hood. Sure enough; it was lying under the drivers seat. I retrieved it and balanced it in my hand. It felt good. I could fuck people up with this- which is exactly what I planned to do. I quietly opened the car door and slithered out. All lights were out in the Groose household. Luckily I knew the house inside-out. The Groose's house was painted a bright blue but it should be yellow; to reflect what was probably happening inside. I felt a surge of anger and quietly approached the front door. I tried it and it opened. I could hear my heart hammering in my chest, I was still breathless from my run and I was extremely nervous. I entered the house. Shit, it was so dark; I couldn't see the crowbar in front of my face. I felt along the wall to the right of me and found the light switch, which I flipped. No one was around; the house was deathly silent. That was until I stood on something that screamed. I nearly had a heart attack; then I looked down and saw the Groose's cat (which was called Starr) Starr looked at me like I was the devil.

“Piss off Starr,” I hissed. It simply stared at me. I decided to ignore it; gosh I was acting like even the cat had betrayed me. I headed upstairs to James's room. I opened the door silently- his parents could be asleep in the next room. I flipped the light switch. Empty; James's room was empty. I slumped defeatedly. 'Where are you Leah?' I thought. James might've done something harsh to her by now. Then I realised that there was a door in the floor – a trap door. Some carpet had been pulled away to reveal it. The trap door was closed but it opened easily. An iron ladder was below me. I climbed down quickly. When I reached the bottom I could see light. I ran towards it with my crowbar defensively held in front. I found myself in a lit room. All the walls were made out of brick, it was cold and depressing- a perfect gang hideout.
