CHAPTER 23

With the amount of anger I felt; I was surprised I wasn't glowing. Poor Leah; she was just a tool to James. He thought of her as a tool. A tool to help him get to me. Chantel cleared her throat. I had been so fixated by James that I had forgotten she was even there. Chantel. The sister I had thought was dead, never to be seen again; had been one of James's puppets all along. Why did she hate me so much? Was there a grudge that she had against me from when she was still living with us? I hated her, I hated everyone in this room. Apart from Leah; I loved her with all my heart and I would rescue her – or die trying.

James removed himself from my girlfriend's lap. He smiled his wicked grin at me. No longer was it the calm, understanding smile that he would give me – it was a smile filled with evil things – like rape and murder.

“Julia, so glad you could join us,” he said with false happiness. I simply stared at him, tears of hatred forming in my eyes. I wiped them away; I didn't want to look weak.

“How have you been?” he asked, “I haven't seen you in a while, I thought we were best friends?”

“WE ARE NOT BEST FRIENDS!” I screamed at him. My voice echoed eerily through the silence of the room. Everyone had their eyes trained on me. I glanced at Leah; she was looking at me with intense fear in her eyes.

“No, you are quite right,” said James with another wicked smile, “we are much more than that.” He strode up to me and pushed me roughly against the wall. His lips found mine and he kissed me tenderly. I bit his lip in protest and he backed away from me.

“Blocks, leave us,” he said in a sharp, commanding voice. All the men and woman that surrounded us began to file out the door I had entered through. There were maybe fifty or so of them all together. When they had all left; only James, Chantel, Leah and I remained.

“You know, none of this would have happened if you had simply had sex with me,” James snarled, “all I wanted was to just feel what it was like to be closer to you. Ten years of longing to be with you and you just had to shut me off.” I looked at him with a stony face;

“You know I couldn't do it James, you were my best friend. You weren't supposed to want sex from me,” I said, trying to remain calm although I was angry and terrified.

“Julia, you are irresistable. Even the girls want to sleep with you,” he gestured to Leah, “I want you to give me another chance.”

I shook my head, “After all the shit you've done to fuck up my friends lives and my own? No fucking way mate,” I shouted. Finally the one sentence to sum up what I felt about this.... boy.... out of my mind. James cocked his head sideways.

“Do you love Leah?” he asked.

I nodded, “without a doubt.” James nodded and reached into his jacket's front pocket. I knew what was about to happen and ran toward him, crowbar raised- I was going to take him out.

“STOP!” someone shouted. I paused, James paused and swung the gun he was holding towards the doorway where..... Tony stood. He was breathless and blood was pouring down his face from where I had hit him. James waved the gun impatiently.

“What Tony?” he asked. Tony gave me a quick wink and then addressed James.

“I've been breaking a gang rule James,” Tony said calmly as he reached into his pocket. He withdrew a photograph. On the photo was Tony locked in an embrace with a dark haired boy. Tony mouthed two words at me, finish him. James gasped in horror and raised his gun so that it pointed directly at Tony's head. He squeezed the trigger without hesitation and Tony Lock dropped to the ground – dead- with the photograph that contained his doom clasped to his chest.
