CHAPTER 4
I slipped the poster under my bed and got out my favourite jacket. It was camo in the middle with black leather sleeves. I got some hair gel out and spiked up my hair. I always do it like Yulia Volkova’s hair. James and Leah always said it’s like Yulia and I are twins, we look so alike and even have the same name (but in different languages). James. I shook my head. I hated him so much right at that moment. I wanted to talk it out with him though. With my get up ready, I went over to Anton’s room. Anton had a tidy room compared to other boys (James) he had posters of Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson and Savage Garden all over his walls. He is a massive fan of all three. People call him gay for this, but I think Anton is the manliest of them all. It must be hard being almost nineteen and getting teased about that. Anton was wearing all black today, it really matched his black hair well.
“You all ready?” he asked.
“Yep, I was born ready,” I smiled, although inside I was dying.
“OK, let’s go.”
We lived in town but we still drove right into the city. Just enough time for me to fume about him. Best friends for ten years and he expected sex from me when I come out to him? I’d rather sleep with Leah! My feelings were so tossed up and hurt. I didn’t know whether to hate James or not. I could still feel that spark, the twinkle in his bright green eyes when he saw me after a long absence. I guess everybody’s got a dark side and James’s that he is a homophobic asshole. I pushed my forehead to the window and let the tears fall.
“Julz!” Leah shouted happily as she ran towards me with her arms out. I hugged her tightly,
“Hey Leah,” I said as she released me. I snuck another look at her chest.
“How’s it going?” asked Leah.
“Not too good, but I’ll tell you later,”
“All good with me,” Leah smiled her radiant smile. She really was beautiful. That’s when I realised I had a little crush on Leah. Whoops.
Anna and Anton wanted to go off alone and Leah was going to the library, so I went with her. Leah is a total nerd; she loves Star Wars and sci-fi novels. She’s top of the year as well, but she’s modest about it; I really like that. Being with Leah was taking my mind off James. I could think about her instead. She is a really captivating girl. At the library, we headed straight to the sci-fi section.
“No tatu books here Julz,” she said.
“Huh?” I had been too busy staring at Leah’s chest as she scrolled through books.
“No tatu books here, oh you look a lot like Yulia today, I like it,” she said with a smile. I blushed, Yulia was too gorgeous, and so I hope I did look like her.
“Julia?” Leah never calls me that.
“Yeah?” I asked.
“Are you OK?” she sounded concerned.
“No, I’m fucking miserable,” God, I felt like crying again.
“What happened?”
“James and I had a fight,” I sniffled.
“Oh Julz,” she said, wiping a tear from my face, “I won’t pry, will you be OK?”
“I hope so,” I wiped my face, “Just give me time.” She hugged me tightly.
“I will, I’m always here for you,” she said kindly. I had butterflies from the touch.
“I know, I’m always here for you to.”

When we got home, Mum was serving up dinner.
“Hey Mum, can I talk to you,” I requested.
“OK,” she said. We went outside onto the deck, it was nice and cool out here.
“Hey, I’m sorry for that outburst the other day,” I felt really ashamed and wanted to do the right thing.
“It’s OK, Julia, I just worry about what you and that boy get up to,” she said wisely.
“Yeah, I know. We had a fight today,” I said. Mum looked really surprised.
“The inseparable James Groose and Julia Leader had a fight?”
“Yes, Mum, he wants to have sex with me,” I said, feeling this morning’s fear drip through me.
“And you said no?”
“Of course, I’m not ready,” this wasn’t entirely true, but I didn’t want a male to take my virginity.
“You are a thoughtful girl, Julia, even if sometimes you’re a bit bold,” she smiled, “better get back to dinner.” I nodded. We went back inside, on good terms once more.
