CHAPTER 11

The interview went OK I guess. Anton and I practiced in the car. The lady who was at the interview was nice to. I tried to focus on Leah to calm me down but my mind kept floating back to James. This made me feel quite nervous. I was so relieved when the interview was over. But my relief was short lived because who was next to be interviewed? James asshole-rapist Groose. He didn’t look at me but I knew he knew I was there. Just his body language gave it away. I felt scared so I rushed to find Anton and he took me home.

I was so excited because Leah was coming back the next day. Anton and I were going to go over to her house after school. Leah and I had ‘done it’ over the phone a few more times but I was so excited to really see her again. I was still very terrified of James and worried about Anton and Mum (who still wasn’t home) So it would be a good distraction. On all the nights since James’s visit; I had been sleeping on a mattress in Anton’s room. My excuse was that I was lonely but I knew he didn’t buy it. He didn’t push me for answers. Dad will be back home the next day though so I’d go back to my room.

GraphicLeah: Julz! I can’t wait to c u!

-GraphicLeah logged out.

The next afternoon; Anton and I arrived at the Cave’s house. Anna hugged Anton for so long I thought they had been glued together.

“Julz! Your face!” gasped Leah when she saw me.

“A girl slapped me but a nice boy named Tony saved me,” I said, “he’s gay to,” I added in a low voice. Leah smiled. “It’s so good to see you again Julz!” she hugged me so tightly; I thought my bones would crack. That made me think of James but that toxic thought was gone as soon as it arrived. I ran my hands through Leah’s hair.

“I like it, the haircut,” I said.

“Thanks!” Leah grinned. Leah’s parents were having a party so Leah and I could do whatever we want and no one would care. So we sat on the couch and watched TV for a few hours. Then some people stood in front of us.

“Let’s go outside now,” Leah suggested. I was all too happy to go outside. We went through the ranch sliders and onto the deck. It was nice out here. Leah’s house overlooked the sports field so I looked over at that. Leah came up behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist; she is a little taller so it wasn’t awkward. Then she kissed me on the cheek. I wasn’t expecting that and my bones turned to liquid. Leah turned me around so I was facing her, our bodies were touching to.

“Are you scared?” she asked quietly.

“Of you? Never,” I replied.

And with that she brought her lips down onto mine. It was such a good kiss. Her mouth was soft unlike his and she wasn’t forcing her tongue into my mouth. I wrapped my arms around her while we were still kissing. This should’ve been my first kiss. This was just so right and James had just felt so awkward and wrong. Leah broke apart from me and smiled.

“You know, I brought you out here just to kiss you?”

“Yeah, I could guess,” I laughed.

“That was a great first kiss, Julia, thank you.”

“You’re not bad yourself.” Sadly that was not my first kiss but I know I’ll remember this one better. Luckily Leah and I had stopped kissing and were standing a reasonable distance apart because Anton came out to take me home.

Dad was at home when we returned but I didn’t notice because I was still thinking about kissing Leah. That’s all I’ll be thinking about for the next few years probably. I went up to bed; my own bed. For the first night in a week I didn’t think of James at all.
