Chapter 8
Niall's point of view
Wow!! thought Niall as the votes were taken. Niall was surprised to see that almost two thirds of the votes were in favour of immediate military action. Awesome! We must have swayed a lot of people with our arguments and the arguments from the prisoners. A lot less people seemed in favour earlier.
Niall grinned and looked up to see James smiling widely, James announced, “That being decided, I will proceed to set up a task force for dealing with the situation.”
“But how are you going to locate the prisons?” Michael asked James.
All the eyes in the room turned back to James. Niall held his breath, hoping his brilliant boyfriend had an answer. Without him we wouldn't even know that thousands of people need rescuing, Niall realised. If James hadn't been curious about statistics, none of us would think there was any problem. As it was, Niall felt a bit of panic, knowing that there were mysterious people in the dark who were just waiting to carry him off to a dark prison cell for the rest of his life.
James smiled. “I've got a few ideas. One thing I noticed was that the few older people in Guantanamo got captured after their powers manifested. They had become famous in their towns for having strange things happen around them. Usually a local paper published an article on them. We didn't notice it at the time, but the people running Guantanamo obviously did. So I suggest we get some people around the world to volunteer to be a little bit famous for their powers and keep a very close watch on them to see if someone kidnaps them and takes them back to a prison facility.”
Oh... Shit! Niall thought. How close did I come then to getting myself captured by glowing on stage?! I could have been one of those people... I made the news headlines. If James hadn't come to help, would someone have kidnapped me?
After the meeting had ended and everyone had gone, Niall went over to James and hugged him tightly. Niall looked up to see James smiling down at him. “I love you too Nialler,” James told him, rubbing Niall's back gently. “But what's with the sudden affection?”
“I was thinking...” Niall said. “About what might have happened if you hadn't come to help me with my powers. I was in the news for glowing... someone might have come and kidnapped me!” Niall felt James tighten the hug around him. They stood together for a long time just holding each other tightly.
“Enough with the PDA guys,” Louis commented as he joined them. “Nice going with the voting James! High five!” Louis held up his hand and James had to awkwardly untangle his arm from around Niall to return the high five.
“Thanks Lou,” James replied with a grin. “But you deserve the credit for your great idea.”
“Um, we need to get back to the US now,” Liam said, coming over to join them, holding his cell to his ear. Paul must be getting his knickers in a twist, Niall thought with a grin.
---
Later that night, Niall lay alone in his bed. James had stayed behind in Australia when the boys had returned to the US.
Niall blinked as he felt a teleport occur nearby. He could feel it now when someone else used their power near him. James is back. Yay! Niall glowed brightly so that James could see in the dark room. James grinned at Niall and then headed into the bathroom, and a few minutes later climbed into bed beside Niall. Hmm, actually... Niall rolled over until he was fully on top of James and their faces were almost touching. “Hey you,” Niall told him with a smirk, staring into James' blue eyes. “Missed you.”
