Chapter 30
Zayn's point of view
“Oh hi Paul!” Zayn said, as he spotted Paul at the hotel's bar as he walked in through the lobby. Zayn had been out all day on his sightseeing trip, which he'd enjoyed. I like Australia. It's a nice country, he thought. Harry's earlier phone call to say that Niall and Liam had hooked up had put Zayn's thoughts in a spin. But it's cool for them, he told himself. It's great they're finally together. I'm happy for both of them.
Zayn dropped his bag on the floor and took a seat at the bar beside Paul and ordered himself a drink. When it came, Zayn raised the glass to Paul and said “Well, cheers to Niam!”.
Paul choked out a laugh and touched his half-empty mug to the side of Zayn's glass.
“Yeah, I guess,” Paul commented, somewhat non-committally. “Harry and Louis are talking about how we need to have a party later to celebrate.” He paused. “I hope it works out okay. Having a relationship within the band could be a problem if it doesn't. The guys from Modest are going to freak out.”
Zayn sniggered. “The Modest guys always freak out at everything. And trust me, Paul, Liam and Niall will work out just fine.”
“Yeah, I guess,” Paul agreed. The man took another swig of his beer. Then he added “Oh, Zayn, before I forget... Alistair Wilson called me up because he needs a telepath for a few days as a personal assistant. All their other telepaths are really busy at the moment, so he was wondering if you were free. I let him know your performance schedule, and he's really keen for you to work with him for the days off you have as well as before your concerts on the performing days.”
Zayn blinked. But Alistair is a Mimic. He could copy a telepath's ability and use that power himself.
I guess he must need an additional telepath.
“Um, okay, I guess that's fine,” Zayn told Paul. Duty calls I guess. No more sightseeing for me it seems.
Niall's point of view
Niall was taking every opportunity to wear his new glasses, because of how much Liam seemed to like them. “They make you look smart... and hot,”Liam had told him. Alright, let's see if I can look smart in this interview, Niall thought. He, Liam and Harry were doing an interview in Auckland, New Zealand.
“What would you guys do, if you were the mayor of Auckland?” the interviewer asked.
Awesome. A good time to sound smart, Niall thought. Now, I just need to think... what might James say? “Well... what's your public transport system like?” Niall responded, playing for time to get his thoughts together.
“A little bit average,” the interviewer replied.
“Well I think we should start spending money,” Niall replied quickly. “As far as natural resources go, I think New Zealand's are pretty good. I think we should start spending money from the natural resources to fix up our train system, or whatever we have here...” Niall spotted Liam staring at him out of the corner of his eye. It's working. “And also schools... I think we could add a few more people to classes in schools, and maybe raise the wages for teachers. And we should build a bigger bridge.”
“Wow. I'm so impressed. What a serious answer!” the interviewer replied, seeming stunned. Glad you liked it, thought Niall. But did Liam? That's the real question.
“It's the new glasses,” Harry told the interviewer. “When he wears his glasses he gets smarter, just like that!” Harry clicked his fingers.
