Chapter 23

Niall's point of view

Bye!” came James' thought to Niall through the mind-link. Bye, thought Niall back.

James initiated a teleport and then vanished. The teleport ended the mind link.

Over the previous 48 hours, Niall had helped James conduct dozens of tests on the mind links. James had taken notes on all the tests, and now had a book full of them. James is a bit special sometimes... Niall thought. Actually he's pretty strange pretty much all of the time. Niall shook his head at his boyfriend's obsessions. One of the first things they had discovered from the tests was that any distance greater than a hundred yards or so was enough to break the link.

But while James had been busy trying to analyse how the mind-links worked, Niall had just been trying to get over the really strange feeling of being inside James' mind. His mind works in pretty strange ways, that's for sure. He's weird.

Niall turned and looked at his now-empty lounge. Noticing the wall full of guitars, Niall went over and took one off its hook and began to strum it. It's great to have absolutely nothing to do for once. Some of Niall's friends were coming around to his house that evening for a barbecue and drinks. But until then, nothing. All day, nothing. Niall could feel relaxation washing through him. The band had been so busy during the later parts of their tour with music and powers stuff that they'd barely had any free time at all.

And now I've got plenty of time, all by myself. James had just gone to a two-week European conference to talk with world leaders about making the existence of powers public. It's nice to have some time alone. While Niall loved James, having the boy inside his head for almost 48 hours solid had been a bit tiring. Niall found it nice to be alone in his own head, and nice to just be by himself. The only thing that would be better would be if Liam was here.

Niall strummed a few more cords. Then he reached for the remote and flicked the TV on. He flicked through the sports channels until he found something interesting to watch.

Louis' point of view

As soon as he'd got back to the UK, Louis had gone on a camping trip with his mum, four of his sisters, and Eleanor.

“Can we have a bonfire Louis?” Daisy asked as they walked along the beach. “With marshmallows? Can we? Can we?”

“Pretty please!” Phobe put in.

Louis scrunched up his face as if trying to decide. “Well, to roast marshmallows properly, you'd need sticks of the right length. I don't see any sticks on the beach.”

“There's trees over there!” Fizzy shouted. “Let's go get some sticks!” She raced off, the two younger twins following her. Louis' mum followed them with a smile.

“But we don't have any marshmallows!” Lottie noted, staying behind with Eleanor and Lou. The oldest of the girls, she was at high school now. “And there's no stores nearby!”

Eleanor winked at her and showed her two bags of marshmallows stored in Eleanor's backpack.

Louis grinned at her. “Why don't you join the others finding sticks Lottie?” he said. “There's something Eleanor and I need to do.”

“Eugh... you guys snogging is so gross!” Lottie exclaimed, running off after the others.

Gross? I think she means hot. Louis sauntered sexily up to Eleanor. “Well babe. We seem to be all alone. On a beach,” he told her. “How romantic,” he whispered breathily into her ear.
