Chapter 7

Lexi pov

I look down at Vic as he cries. I wasn't moving but it wasn't like I could. I was stuck here. I look out the window and see the Knights go out into the poor part of town. I keep watching, curiosity getting the better of me, that's when I see it. They're going to Calum's house.

"No." I mutter softly and look at Vic.

"I-I'll be back." I look at his lips. I may never see him again. I press my lips to his and pull back.

"Lexi-"

"No. You'll make it harder. I-I'll be back." I say with tears forming in my eyes.

I run out the door and wait for the elevator. It quickly came to me and I get in going to Maria's room. I shouldn't be doing this. I get there anyway and Maria looks at me, half scared half I don't even know. I run towards her window. They were getting closer.

"Where's Calum?" I asked rushed.

"Calm down. In the bathroom." I nod and run in there.

"Cal!" I yell and he looks up at me.

"It's you're parents." I say, tears falling down my face.

He ran towards me immediately. I take him towards the window showing how close they were. He grabs my hand and I kiss his cheek.

"We have to go help them." I whisper in his ear and he nods.

I walk with him and look at his flannel. He looks down and quickly takes it off. I see his back knowing it may never get better. I run my hand along one but pull back. He looks at me and we get to the elevator. I was hoping they were okay. We get to the door and we make a run for it. I see Calum beside me.

"This is why we did track." He says as we run to his house.

Everyone looked at us, our neighbors. This place was my home. It may be broken but it's my home. I'm going to protect it. No matter what happens. We make it to his house and see we barley made it before the guards. We rush inside, hiding what we need to. Getting his mom and dad out of there. I take a deep breath smelling the roses. Cal grabs my hand.

"Fake it. Just for a moment." He says.

I knew what they were here about. Me and Vic. We can't be together. Me and Calum sit at the kitchen table, talking. The door busts open and he grabs my hand. I whimper and he puts me behind him protectively.

"Calum Hood?" A man says.

Calum pov

I hold Lexi's hand as I nod at the man.

"We have prior news that you've been trying to get with the princess." The guy says.

"No. She told me what to do. She told me to get on the bed. I had to listen to her. It's my job. You see I have a girlfriend and we're planning on getting married soon." I say keeping a tight grip on Lexi.

She squeezes my hand and I pull her close to my side. She buries her face in my chest and I sigh.

"Okay we will inform the king. When will you two be getting married?" He asks suspiciously.

"We don't know yet sir." I rub the back of her hand.

"You and your girlfriend have to stay away from the castle for a while. King's order." The man said and I nod. Stay away from the castle? Oh no.

"How old are you two? Don't you seem young to be getting married?" He asks.

"I'm 23 sir and she's 19. We've been dating for now 4 almost 5 years. I think we're sure we want to get married. We've been thinking about it for a while now." I say smiling at her.

"We'll tell the king I'm sure he'll be happy for you. I'm sorry to interrupting you two. Have a good day." The man leaves and Lexi breaks down.

I hold her close to me and sit us on a chair. She sobs into me, clutching my shirt. She keep shaking her head over and over. I take a deep breath smelling the roses and sigh.

"I'm sorry." She says wiping her eyes.

"It's fine." I say and grab her chin.

I pull her closer to me and for a moment I thought about us. If we didn't like royals. If we loved each other. She looks at me curiously. I don't know why I was thinking about it. I shouldn't be but I just was at the time.

"Cal?" She asks softly and I break out of my daze.

"Hmm?"

"Can we just lay down? I don't want to think about anything anymore." She says and I nod. I lead her to my room and lay us down on the bed. She rests her head on my chest and I rub her back. 

"What were you thinking about?" She asks, looking up at me and I sigh softly. I have to tell her anyways.

"Well you know how I said that we were dating and all. I don't know I was just thinking about that. I mean if you didn't like Vic and if I didn't like Maria." I say and she rubs my arm.

"You mean if we loved each other?" She asks and I nod.

"Yeah." I bite my lip.

"I love you Calum." She snuggles into my side.

I wrap my arms around her waist and kiss her forehead, pulling her closer to me. She's my best friend. She's been with me since we were kids. No one could separate us. No one.

"I love you too Lexi."

Something we say a lot. I want Maria. She wanted Vic. We didn't want each other. No. I start think about what it would be like if Maria was a peasant. What would it be like would things be different or would they not be? Would I not notice her? Would I die without her? I look down at Lexi as she's sound asleep on me. So many What Ifs. I only want Maria. Lexi wants Vic. They want us. We can't change now. We can't love each other. It would solve a lot of things right now. I do love Lexi but as much as I like Maria? I don't know all I know is I need Maria. Lexi needs Vic but in the same time we need each other. I close my eyes wanting to sleep and soon I do holding Lexi protectively. I don't ever want to lose my best friend.
