Chapter Thirteen
———Ryker
"SHE'S A WHAT!?" I yelled, anger clearly laced in my voice.
"A Lycus." Nathaniel answered more confidently.
"Holy shit." I breathed, running my hands through my hair. This does explain a lot more...
"That's why it was so improtant for me to come today. It's her birthday in under a week, she needs to know the history of her family." Nathaniel swallowed down his fear, now answering everything easily.
'Damn...why-how is Ylva a Lycus?' My wolf growled. 'Why the fuck didn't she tell us!'
'She was probably afraid.' I told him. Raiden was still on edge but calmed slightly.
"Why wouldn't she tell me this?" I asked her uncle who was standing there, watching me for any sudden reactions. But no, it wasn't her fault.
"She was probably afraid you would reject her, Alpha Ryker." Nathaniel admitted, "She doesn't know much about it herself. Ylva's never been one to trust easily."
"I wouldn't ever reject! She's all I need!" I growled at him.
He took a step back, "I understand that Alpha, but Ylva doesn't know that. Put yourself in her shoes. She doesn't know anyone else except her Mother who is dead that was a Lycus!" Nathaniel told me.
'I wouldn't ever reject her. Maybe she didn't trust us because of that BITCH!' My wolf shouted, authority in his voice, 'I was never the one who wanted to sleep with her in the first place.'
'Don't blame me for all of this. I don't want to hear any more about Katie. I want nothing to do with her.' I grumbled.
"May I speak with my niece now?" Nathaniel asked, clearly desperate to get away from the tension of the room.
"Yes, but I will be listening in." I growled. I knew he really didn't want me to listen, but there was nothing he could say against an Alpha.
"Very well, Alpha." Nathaniel answered and took off out of the office to find Ylva.
Ylva
I was talking to Sunbrooke when Nathaniel walked into the lounge, "Ylva, may I speak to you, privately." He asked.
"Uh, sure." I signaled for him to follow me out the back, facing towards the training field.
We sat down, watching some of the younger ones train. Nathaniel's posture seemed tense and his eyes flickered between black and brown. This usually only happened when he was either worried, or his wolf was on edge.
"So... what's up?" I asked. He finally looked at me but he still seemed a bit hesitant.
"Ylva, you have become a full Lycus now, you should know about some of the history." He rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"Uh... Okay?" I raised an eyebrow. Lucine and Misty were listening in carefully to our conversation when Nathaniel started to begin.
"Your mother, " He started and my body was already tense. The mention of her always did, "She was a very independent lady, never wanted anyone to hurt you. If you were older back then, you would have seen how many people she killed to protect you." Nathaniel looked at me.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"At the age of eight, you began to smell a mix of both vampire and werewolf together. As you grew into a teenager it went away. You smell like werewolf now because it was uncertain if your were going to be more werewolf or more vampire."
Misty and Lucine were now glued to the conversation.
"As you know, your grandmother was a vampire and your grandfather was a wolf. The council didn't know it was possible to have a child with both vampire and werewolf genes at that time but your mother was born."
"When your mother and father met, your father didn't know whether to accept your mother or not. But when she became pregnant with you, he marked her and accepted her as his own. When you were born, you had blue hair and your eyes were more purple than violet."
Nathaniel brought a photo with a tear along the left side. On the image was a picture of a baby on it. That was me? My hair was multiple shades of blue and my eyes were a dark purple. How?
"It was because of your vampire and wolf side. But your dad was a Beta." My head shot up to look at Nathaniel with shock.
My Dad was a Beta?
"Yes Ylva, he was a Beta. So it made the wolf gene stronger. But both your parents knew they had to protect you more than themselves. Your mother had a gift; she had visions. I don't know whether you do or not but your mother did. So on that night that your parents left you for a while, she came to me, where she had a vision. She told me someone was after you, they wanted your power. Then she screamed and shifted into her wolf. Your father followed." Nathaniel explained.
"Your father mind linked me, telling me someone was surrounding your house. While your mother went inside, your dad fought some of the men. But it wasn't enough. When your mother was killed, half of him died inside. The last thing he said to me was to protect you." Nathaniel looked at me. Sorrow, guilt and uncertainty was covering his eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me this before?" I asked.
"You weren't of age. Your parents came to me in a dream. They told me they would never rest until you knew and the guy that hurt you was killed. When your birthday comes, you should be able to talk to your mother."
I was lost for words.
'Hell yeah! Vampire history! Better than werewolf history all the time!' Lucine yelled happily.
'Nope! Werewolf history is always better!' Misty hissed.
'Is not!'
'Is too!'
I blocked them out. All they were doing was arguing.
"That's why your voice when you sing is so angelic. It's a power. It can't really stop anything, it's just beautiful." He smiled at me.
'Do you know of any other powers we have?' I asked Misty.
'Uhh... no, ask Nathaniel.'
"Nathaniel, do I have any other powers?"
He thought for a moment, "Well, you should be able to speak to your mum, your fighting skills will always be stronger, but other than than, I have no idea. You must find your powers within yourself."
I stared at the ground. I had powers. I was an Alpha's mate, and that Alpha was an Alaric wolf. Would I be even stronger? I looked around the training area. A few pack members were out here. Some of them smiled and nodded my way, I nodded back politely.
I am not their Luna, no matter what Ryker says. I am not good enough - the first day I came here I was in a fight with another pack member! What kind of example is that? I sighed slightly before talking again, "Would I be stronger if I had an Alaric for a mate?" I asked staring Nathaniel dead into his eyes. His eyes widened and I silently nodded.
"Well, I don't know. Maybe, I guess. I'm not really sure."
I sighed again. What would Ryker think if this? I was so afraid to tell him, I didn't want to be rejected with nowhere to go, "Do you want a drink?" I asked Nathaniel.
"No I'm okay but we can go back inside if you like?" I nodded and walked back inside.
Entering the kitchen, I froze, 'I'm sorry. I told him. He's an Alpha, I can't refuse to him.' was all I got from Nathaniel. Ryker stared at me, his arms crossed. His expression was blank and I couldn't tell whether he was glaring at me or if he was happy. His eyes were flickering different colours. My body trembled in fear. I swallowed thickly, sprinted outside and shifted.
