Chapter Twenty Seven
———Ylva
'Ylva...' I heard someone say.
I had just woken up, tugging against the retrainments as I looked around wildly for whoever said my name. That fucker locked me up! All I wanted to do is see my family, understand why I had really bad anger issues and this is how he reacts. Okay, that guy seriously needs some help.
'Ylva...' The voice said again.
"Okay. Whoever you are, stop messing with my head!" I snapped, letting out a low growl.
'Sh, now... my young Ylva.' the voice whispered. I felt something across my cheek, almost like a hand. Ryker's room was dark because of the blackout curtains. No one else was in the room except me. I was alone. Again.
"Whatever you just did is really cringey, by the way!" I yelled, freaking out a little. For someone outside the bedroom, they probably thought I was crazy talking to myself.
'Sh, now, Ylva. There's no need to be afraid.' The voice was gentle, calming. It was angelic and soft. Could it be...? No. Impossible, she's dead. But it sounded so familiar and so alike...
"M-Mum?" I asked, swallowing thickly.
'Yes, Ylva. Happy birthday, honey!'
My birthday?
"Oh, I'm having a great day. I've been locked up by my mate and now I'm talking to a ghost version of my mother." I said in a bored tone, note the sarcasm in my words.
'I know, but you disobeyed your Alpha, your mate.' She reminded me.
"Why are you taking his side? If I didn't see my Gran, I could've killed him!" I growled, "Everyone's all about rules and following the dominant wolf - not me!"
'I know it seems bad Ylva, but Ryker loves you. He's only doing it to protect you.' She whispered, 'And I know you would never be one to follow. You just need to understand why he's doing it.'
"How come I can talk to you? Have I gone crazy?" I asked. Knowing me, I probably went crazy years ago when I fought teenage boys when I was younger than them. Death wish much.
My mother laughed. Her laugh was cheery, just like I remembered, 'No, Ylva. You're eighteen and a Lycus, it's a special power you have.'
So that's what Nathaniel was talking about. I felt her pull me into a hug, which I gladly accepted, "How come I can't see you?"
'You can. Just close your eyes and you'll see me.' So I did. I saw her emerald green eyes again and her brown curly hair. Her soft skin touched mine as she embraced me in yet another hug.
'I will see you soon!' Another voice echoed through my head. I scowled at the same dark snarl. It's freaking me out and I don't know who it is!
"Ylva?" I opened my eyes and saw Ryker standing in front of me.
"What?" I gritted my teeth, clearly not in the mood for bullshit.
"I want to say sorry about Raiden yesterday." He whispered, but I still heard it. I knew that Alpha's hardly ever apologised, mate or not, but that didn't mean I was just going to forgive with a flick of my fingers.
"If he was a real man, he would say sorry himself." I spat.
"Please don't make him angry. He's already pissed."
"What and you think I'm not?" I shouted. "All I did was see my Gran, if I didn't, I could have killed you! Then, you put me to sleep again and I wake up in chains! What the hell are you thinking?!"
Ralph's body tensed, "It was either me or Raiden."
I felt myself flinch when he mentioned Raiden. My heart beat increased and Misty and Lucine already bowed their heads. I wasn't submitting. Hell no, "How nice of you." I snarled.
"Why are you so angry?"
"Because I wake up, in chains, on my eighteenth birthday! Great! I'm enjoying this day already! Thank you, mate! Love you too." I turned my head and ignored him.
"Please forgive me."
"I can't." I whispered.
"Please, baby girl. Give me a second chance." he pleads, and it's rare for an Alpha to plead.
"I already gave you a second chance and you took it. You hurt me with it. You're lucky I don't beat your ass." I snapped.
"Please! I promise nothing like that will happen again!" I could hear the beg in his voice.
Could I trust him again? He was my mate, I was supposed to put all my trust in him. I had enough to deal with already, and I know he did too, but I didn't fancy being broken again. My life was already a mess. I didn't know if I could snap and kill the ones I loved. I didn't know who's voice was continuously pestering the back of my mind. I gave him a chance already. Could I risk it again?
'Please, one more chance, Ylva.' Misty begged.
'All you care about is the mate bond Misty,' I sighed, 'You don't know how I feel bout this.'
'And weren't you the one who told Raiden you wish he never marked us?' Lucine asked and my wolf fell quiet. Misty understood how it felt to be rejected but she didn't understand how it felt to be in my position. All she wanted was her mate and nothing else. If Misty had it her way, no one would be here except her and Raiden, God knows what they'd get up to!
'Ylva, listen to me.' I heard Lucine continue, 'I know you're hurt but you need Ryker. We do. I know it may not seem like it, but you do. Later in life, something is going to come up, and you need him there with you, to support and protect you. Please.'
'What are you saying?' I asked.
She was quiet for a moment before answering, 'Give him another chance.'
I looked back up to Ryker, whose eyes were covered in desperation. I knew that he knew I was negotiating with my other forms, but I was the one who would have the final say, "Please, Ylva. I can make it up to you!" He pleads, "I need you - I need you more than anyone will ever understand."
I put a sigh and slowly nod my head, "Okay, Ryker. One more chance." I muttered. My lips were suddenly captured by his mouth. I hesitated at first before leaning closer, kissing him back. Ryker's arms wrapped around my back as he hovered over me, still kissing my lips. I tugged at the retrainments before it was released from my wrist, allowing my hands to explore through my mate's hair.
"Ylva Endrin," I looked into his forest eyes as he pulled away, "Will you go on a date with me today?"
I smiled at him, "I would love to go on a date with you." and kissed him again, pulling him in deeper.
"Take all the time you need, I'll be waiting for you, down by my Alfa." He winked, smirking before leaving the room.
Maybe this could work.
