We met at the park bathed in darkness. The shadows of the trees looked like ghosts of the past ready to capture us and eat our good intentions.
As I walked through the gate of the park, a little down the road, where Luke and me used to play as children, a dark, shadowing figure sat on a bench next to a tree near the playground. "Hi", Ash smiled sheepishly as I approached, "Hi", I returned with an equal stupor. I sit beside him, wisshing we didn't come here to speak about the past, but instead of our future. Silence becomes relevant, and we soak it up, willing this cal-before-the-storm feeling to dissapate.
"We need to talk Ash" I swallow softly. " I know" he sighs. We stare off in silence for another minute, before I continue. " If it was anyone else I would say "I'm sorry", but sorry doesn't seem like the right word anymore." I speak slowly, softly, and honestly. "I'm glad I told you. Even if you don't want me around anymore, I needed you to know what happened." I was almost scared to look at Ash, he had just let down all his walls for me, he sounded so vulnerable. What if I don't say the right thing? I shake off the uncertain feeling wit the thought that this boy was just Ash. Sweet, adorable Ash. I needn't worry what to say, It's just Ash. "You're very strong." I speak truthfully, letting the night breeze carry my words, like mist. "What?" Ash turns to me, suddenly more interested in my words than our airy surroundings, 'or his own thoughts,' I think. "You're very strong, I'vee thought that since the moment we met, Not many people could walk right up yo a group of teenage boys, as crazy as ours, without turning away." I glanced at him, and we shared a smile at the memory.
We became silent again, pondering whatever filtered through our heads. Ash broke the silence this time. "Honestly... I'm glad I did it Lylla." I jump, slightly suprised by how deep his voice had gotten as he said that, it's like all of him had darkened, and deepened with his thoughts. I jumped again at the sudden sound as he continued after a moment of collecting himself and his thoughts. "I'm in such a better headspace then I was, even before." He takes a deep breath and glances in my direction, "It sounds awful, but if I could do it over I would," he takes a breath collecting himself again, " I would, do the same thing." He hesitated ans sits more stiffly than before, waiting for my answer. I look him in the eyes with a reassuring smile playing on my lips, "I understand." I say quietly, enveloping him in my arms. "And of course I want you." I whisper in his ear. He pulls me to arms length, "You mean it?" he checks, with a sparkling glint in his hazel abyss', "Of course Asha." We embrace again, a weight lifted off our shoulders, no more secrets between us.
