~The Sacrifice~
BANG! BANG! BANG!
"Luke! You need to head over to the other side of the wall it's safer." I look at my drill Sergeant Zack.
"Are you kidding me. There's people who need to be saved and I'm going to help these people," I said.
"Luke of you don't get over the wall you'll die. There's a whole army coming in and this time with grenades. Go!" He said.
"I'm not leaving you." I knew if he kept arguing I would just put up with a fight. I'm not gonna leave him. He's my best friend.
"You're a crazy son of a bitch," he laughed.
"Hey its what brothers do. We stick with each other." He nodded and I loaded my gun.
"So there's a building not to far from here. There's still people in there. We need to get them over the wall," Zack told me.
"When will the army be coming in?" I ask.
"In an hour so that gives us plenty of time to get them," he said. And that's what we did. We ran to the building hoping we didn't get fired at which we didn't. Thank the lord. I saw the building that we were going in.
"How many people are there?" I ask quickly.
"About 10 15," he said. We run inside. It was really quite. It wasn't until I heard a baby cry. There's babies trapped too. We found everyone including children and babies who were abandoned. I was carrying two infants. We made it to the wall and helped the people, kids, and babies over the wall.
"Theres about 20 minutes now until the army comes. You should get over the wall. That's not their territory and they can't enter it or we'll shoot."
"Like I said. I'm gonna stay."
"Luke. You have a family. I only have you. You need to live for your daughters and your wife. Just do it for them and for me. Please!" I nod, but I gave him a hug before I left to go over. There was a lot of people heading down the shelter.
"LOVE YOU BROTHER!" I heard him scream. I smile and yell,
"Love you too bro. I'll see ya in the afterlife!" Tears filled my eyes at the thought. I knew he was dying for our country, but I guess I've known him for long the thought was agonizing. I smile at some of the memories we've had. When we first met, which was when we were 5, when we started school, finishing high school, doing everything together, and joining the army together. We did everything together, like a best friend.
"YOU KNOW IT!" He yelled. I couldn't help, but laugh a little. It wasn't until I was walking towards the shelter when the bomb went off. Zack was right in the middle of it.
Zack was an incredible person. If you got to know him you would he was the weirdest person ever, but once you get to know him like I did he was a very caring person and would do anything to save anyone. That's why he sacrificed himself o save not only me, but millions of people.
Thank you Zack.
