Ava's pov.
Me and Sam arrived at the dance and it looked like the whole school was here. We walked through the front doors and looked around."I wonder if Jake's here." Sam wondered aloud. Of course he was here. He is the most popular senior.
"I don't think it's too healthy to get all jacked up about some guy that isn't even a thing yet." I raised my eyebrows as I scanned the scene in front of me. I had a feeling this dance was gonna suck, and I was already right.
"Yeah, well when you don't have anything you don't have anything to lose, right?" Sam shrugged as she looked away from the scene then at me.
"That's a cheerful thought." I said sarcastically. "Let's go make ourselves available." I smirked as I led Sam to the edge of the dance floor.
Once we were there, Sam spotted Jake and stared at him. He was dancing with Caroline to a slow song. I thought it was a bit creepy how she stared at him the way she did.
I stood with her for a minute then decided to leave, waving goodbye to Sam. She didn't even notice since she was so caught up on Jake.
When I try to walk away, an arm pulled me back. I almost tripped in my black stilettos but I kept my balance.
"What, Sam?" I asked as I turned to look at her.
"Jake was just looking you up and down. How are you gonna say that he doesn't like you?" Sam said, referring to the conversation we had earlier.
All she said was she thought Jake liked me and I liked him back. I just kept denying it. I couldn't tell my best friend I like her crush, especially when she thinks he likes me back.
"Sam," I glanced over at Jake who was already looking at me. He gave me a weak smile as the slow dance ended. I quickly looked away and back at Sam. "I told you he doesn't like me. Why would he like me when he has a girlfriend that's ten times better than me?"
"Well," She paused. "maybe he thinks you're ten times better than her. I mean, you and Caroline are friends so you must be pretty up there on his scale of girls he thinks are hot."
"Me being friends with Caroline has nothing to do with Jake. I promise. Just don't think about it too much and try to talk to him. Maybe you're on his scale too." I smirked as I walked away, only to be interrupted, again, by the geek I met in the parking lot.
"All right," the geek slowly nodded, looking me up and down. "I knew you'd come around." He smirked. "Break dance, sister." He began to dance, looking like more of a geek while doing so. "Very hot, very hot." He panted, still dancing. "Tonight, tonight is happening. I'm blowing your mind aren't I?"
I couldn't help but laugh and stand there in amusement. When his back is turned, I quickly walk off.
"Hey, Ava." I heard a familiar voice from behind me. I turned around to see Caroline and her two other friends there. "Do you want to blow off this dance?"
"Yes." One of her friends, I think her name was Sarah, said in a bored tone.
"I'm bored . . ." Her other friend, Kaitlyn I think, trailed off, picking at her nails.
"And go where?" I asked.
"Well," Caroline thought. "Jake's parents aren't home, we could do it at his house." Caroline shrugged. I was not for that plan. They always throw parties at his house and he's the one who ends up with a trashed house. "Let's party light though. Jake's paranoid about his parent's house getting trashed."
"Again." I mumbled, following them.
