Emma's POV

It's Tuesday, I have now completed 2 days of school and still haven't made any friends besides Killian. I take the bus home instead of driving because I don't really know the area yet.
"Hello?" I say as I open the big gold, double doors and step onto the beautiful checkered marble floors. There is a big statue in the foyer and next to that there is a big spiral staircase leading up to the attic.
"Is anyone home?" I yell out. Even though if there was they would probably not hear me. My mom is probably at the store or running other errands.
I decide to grab a snack and go to the beautiful library which is my favorite part about the house... I love it because it has a bunch of huge windows and maroon curtains. Plus it has nice comfy chairs for me to sit in while I read. I walk across the room to a shelf with a line of books with swirly designs on the binds. Some of them are stories I have heard of but some are completely new. Like this one about the lady who lived here, Regina Mills. It talks about her acting career and her life. She was adored by so many people and just as she was getting really famous she disappeared for 6 months and when she came back she was found dead, on the floor, in her upstairs bedroom.

I hear the door open and I look up from my book.
"Hey, sweetie, what are you reading?" My mother asks as she walks in.
"Just something on the history of this place and the lady who used to live here."
"I don't get why you like all that. It just sounds creepy to me... I also don't understand why your father HAD to pick this house." Her short brown hair glimmers in the light as she brushes it back.
"Well I like it. Where is he anyway?"
"Oh he-" she is interrupted by her cell phone. "Yes this is Mary Margaret, oh my gosh thank you very much! Monday? Ok thank you!" she says into the phone.
"Was that the school?"
"Yeah! I got the new teaching position!"
I smile back at her then she says "Anyways, like I was saying, your dad said he is going to have to work late, right now he is trying to prove he is a hard worker and impress the other officers."
"Well I know he will win them over."
"I bet so too, after all he did win me over."
"Oh, stop." I say as I playfully push her. "Do you want to come with me, I am going to explore some of the house."
"That sounds interesting but like I said, this place gives me the creeps." She says
"Ok... but you'll be missing out. Oh -
and I have been meaning to ask you, why is everything still here from when Regina lived here?"
"It's like a historical tribute to her or something..."
"Interesting... but wouldn't she give it to someone? Like wouldn't she have put someone in her will?" I ask
"I guess not..."

I walk up a couple flights of stairs and find a room with glass french doors. I open them and find a large study with a big brown desk and more books. There is a big globe on the desk and a couple drawers. I open one and it's empty but the second one won't open now matter how hard I try. I turn around and suddenly a strange man is standing next to me.
My mom walks in and says "Oh, Emma, I forgot to tell you, there is a caretaker of the house that lives down the hill. What was your name again?"
"Gold." He says. He sent chills up my back.
"Oh right! Mr. Gold." My mom says
"Tell me if there's anything you need..." He says still looking at me.
"Thank you very much, I am Emma Swan." I say as friendly as possible.
He nods then leaves.

•••

I sit on my bed reading trying to get the image of Mr. Gold out of my head when I hear the floor creak. I get up and begin to walk to the door when Killian pops out in front of me.
"What the heck is wrong with you?!" I ask as I slap his leg with my book. It's soft cover so it won't hurt him but I still find it funny.
"I knew your face would be funny." He says laughing so hard I think he is going to wet his pants.
"How did you get into the house?" I ask
"A ghost... who do you think? Your mom let me in."
"Oh well don't sneak up on me like that. I thought you were Mr. Gold."
"Who's Mr. Gold?" he asks.
"This creepy caretaker. I met him today." I look down the hall and slightly close the door before finishing. Then I start to whisper. "He snuck up on me and it freaked me out. But the weird thing is that I didn't hear him come in and the floors are so creaky, you could hear a mouse coming... but I didn't hear him."
"That is weird..."
