The halls were quiet now that everyone had dispersed to their daily doings after helping clean up from breakfast. Everyone either helped wash, dry, or put away, all the various dishes that fed us all, to their designated home in the cafeteria they call a kitchen. Anyone who didn’t help clean the dishes, brought them to us from the dining room and tidy up in there as well. Amy was calling out orders like she was Alpha and in no time both the kitchen and dining room were spotless.
After Amy had deemed the kitchen clean mostly everyone had left. Some were leaving to work, others to school, and some back to their rooms somewhere in this castle- I mean house. Yeah right!
As I followed Seth out the kitchen doorway I saw several males along with a couple of females gathered in groups of two in the living room. They were discussing which sections of the border each team was going to be patrolling for the rest of the morning until the early afternoon when another group would take over.
I knew their territory was large but I have no idea the full extent of it. There was at least twelve wolfs in just that one patrol group, that made six groups for when they broke off in twos. Most packs that I have seen in my two years on the run only have patrol groups of eight, two wolfs going off in each direction and patrol the border. But the North-Western Pack was so large that they needed to send two more sets of wolves to adequately run the border lines and protect the pack from invaders. Like me.
“So where are we going?” I asked Seth as we walked through the maze of hallways to only God knows where.
“Back to your room so we can talk since you insist that it be in private.”It kind of made me feel weird; he was calling the Safe Room, My Room. I mean it’s not like it would always be my room, but to be able to call something mine was foreign but it was fulfilling.
We rounded the corner and the massive vault door loomed over us. Seth pushed it open with a simple gesture as if it was a piece of clothe blocking is way and not a five hundred pound door of metal. If I didn’t hate werewolves as much as I do I would probably be in awe of them.
I walked in after him and she closed the door behind me with a whoosh, not bothering to bolt any of the locks. I sauntered over to the bed a plopped down on the feather soft comforter, if I was going to be lectured I might as well be comfortable.
For once Seth didn’t follow me but stood leaning on the wall by the door, arms crossed looking the picture perfect of relaxed. But then his faced turned serious, I suddenly felt like a little kid about to be yelled at for stealing a cookie before dinner time. Pretty pathetic seeing as I never had a cookie in my whole life, let alone try to steal one.
“Why did you leave this room when you woke up and saw that I was not here?” He asked breaking the silence that built between us.
“Um, the door was unlocked so I pushed it open and walked out.” I fought the urge to add a ‘duh’ to complete the snobby girl impression I was going for.
“It was unlocked because I didn’t know if I could trust that you would unlock it and let me back in.” Which I probably wouldn’t have. “Do you even realize that going out there without me is dangerous! Most of the wolves have no idea who you are, and what you are doing in their home. We are territorial you know that, one slip of control and they could have seriously hurt or maybe even kill you, being in this room is the second safest thing that you can do right now until the whole Pack knows who you are and that you are not to be harmed.”
